I'm not really sure if this is the best place for this, but I would appreciate your views.

I was accepted for the position stated in the title, which I'm sure you all know is the people that stick around school all summer to help out with new student orientation and other miscellaneous duties.
I think it would be a really fun thing to do, but I would appreciate some opinions based on my pros and cons.
Pros:
I get to stay at school all summer, this is about the closest position to an internship a freshman is able to get around here, it is of course great leadership experience, and I would have a lot of fun (maybe even a little too much in some cases).
Cons:
Pay is crap; I would be making a ton more working back at home (but note that I would consider myself financially needy, I would still be able to afford school), and I would be away from all of my friends and family back home for the summer.
My pros seem a lot more influencing, but the income thing is really throwing me to the side. I'm a kid who likes his money..but then again I don't positively need it at this point in time. What do you guys think? Thank you

Well have you looked for internships yet?
That would probably the best first option. Also, how far away from home is your school?
With all that being said, I'd go with the Student Orientation Leader gig. Hearing from the orientation leaders I know, it is one of the funnest "jobs" you'll ever have. If you were accepted for the position I'm sure you're the kind of person that will have a great time. Also, being an orientation leader is a good networking tool. All the freshman assigned to you look up to as one of their first experiences at school and you will for the most part, remain an integral part of their memories of college. Also, you won't be away from home the whole summer, right? Orientations usually only occur for 2/3's of July or so...at least I think.
But, honestly I think you'll have a blast as an orientation leader!

Well I'm a freshman and it's more or less impossible to get an internship around here with only a year of schooling. My school is about 90 miles away (all highway) but that isn't really an issue or anything for me. And our school is a little different from others in that we do actually stay there the entire summer..mainly for planning welcome fests I believe. And thanks a lot for the advice morethanever it was helpful!
