connections, etc

You're kidding if you don't think this isn't all about "who you know not what you know." That is the golden rule of politics and even though most of you think obama is the second coming, he and the world political world still operates by that maxim.

I don't have a crystal ball but if I had to guess they are not contacting the people who wrote your letters (think about it: if the number 4000 I heard was right, that's 12000 different people). Moreover, most letters are ******** written by staffers. They're most likely looking at the address on the top of your letter (teacher? Check. Senator? Check. Boss? Check etc).

Now people are talking about background checks. Were talking about the federal government here...how long do you think it would take the FBI to check out 100 kids who, if they're applying and qualified enough to get this, are prob generally good, clean people.

Finally, to the people claiming to have been interviewed I say this: name the person you spoke to, the dept they worked in, and what they asked you. Until then, I call BS. Think about it: if all of us are crazy enough about getting this that we found this thread then I'm guessing we all had good apps. How could it be that only 1-3 people got a mysterious interview....

Food for thought, people.

Dude it's logic. If say 300 hundred(which is high) people got phonecalls, how many are going to be in this forum at this exact time?

Right and I think those of us that found this forum... out of 4000-7000... Having 1-3 people who say they got interviews seems to make sense... if anything I find that number proportionately high, but it still makes sense.

It might be somewhat who you know, but that doesn't stop me from trying. There is no application fee or anything.

scanman--
I'm going to ask you to please, if you dont want to keep your posts positive, refrain from using profanities, even "bleeped out" ones like *** or whatever you want to use. I said it earlier and a lot of people agree, this is a forum, mostly where (in the beginning when there were very few of us) we just are here to commiserate (in a good way) over the experience and stress of applying for what we know is a highly presitigious and sought after position.

For my sake and others, you are welcome to your opinion of what kind of people will get this internship, but if you continue to be vulgar I am going to contact an administrator about it.

On another note:

this was asked a bit ago when this thread was much smaller (member-wise) but do posters mind telling us your year in school and maybe top 3 office positions, its fun discusison to keep our minds busy And I'm really glad most of us are optimistic about this, it's totally the attitude we should have!

Just from my previous experience with applying for internships and jobs, I cannot think of an example where someone got the job without interviewing. So, the pessimistic side of me is really down right now. Are apple and KFComedy's son the only ones on here who got an interview?

Alright, alright, I'll start this... *ahem*

I am a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill. My top offices were Vice President, Domestic Policy, and either Liaison or First Lady (don't remember which was third).

I am not optimistic, but can't be disappointed if I have no expectations. I have other summer plans just in case, and I feel lucky to have even a small chance. Would be awesome to get it, but I am going to look at it more as a VERY pleasant surprise.

Next?

My dude - I am positive and I hope that every single person on this thread gets the job! I know people are stressed out on here and I'm just giving my two cents about how I think this is going to go based on what little info I've gleaned from people I know and from my time spent working in environments like this. Is the white house a great gig? Sure. But its not the end of the world if you don't get this and I think some people on here need to realize that. Moreover, if you get the internship and have such a profanity I hope to god they don't put you near rahm....

So, in the spirit of being positive, best of luck to all of you.

braun: remember as someone said earlier, we're a guniea pig class. Everything is really hectic over there so I'm sure not all the departments had enough time to go through and interview any or all of the applicants they wanted to. They gave themselves a 3 week deadline which turned out not to be enough time as is. I wouldn't really worry about it too much. Next round, yes, but not this one.

I wonder if international experience is going to get me in. Haha, I personally know the pilot of an African country's President, haha, that country is fighting the war on terror alongside the USA so I wonder if I Got him to recommend me, maybe I would have been called by now? lol.

I still have hope, immean, i have international work, albeit independent tho, but still...and i have domestic service as well....however, my GPA wasnt all that shining since I major in something that has nothing to do with politics, and is very technical and heavy in math and science

we'll see

George: me too (engineering) although I'm a bit harsh on myself. Actually, funny story, my GPA on my transcript is wrong, because one of my grades has been wrong for an entire semester (says B+ instead of A-) which wouldn't really matter, except my GPA bumps up to 3.7 from 3.6

ohhh well, I figure it wont make *that* much of a difference...I hope?

plus Obama seemed to want a really diverse group of interns (which I stated earlier) and I think (hope) part of that will be our backgrounds in school, so that it's not as heavily political/liberal arts focused as I think it tended to be in the past.
