I'm on with the "KEEP IT POSITIVE CROWD" I hope everyone gets it. I do agree that getting a job without at least a phone interview is a stretch. Time to sit and wait! We will see in due time. Whether I get it or not I appreciate the opportunity and look forward to the production of the administration more than the opportunity to participate (although there are different means in which to do so that I plan to pursue if it's a no go).

Good luck guys I'm sure we will all be camped out here till the 24th freaking out together!

Misery loves company...lol

Plenty of places offer positions before giving interviews. That was the case with my last government internship. I first received a notice from the intern coordinator, by e-mail, that I had been selected for the department I applied to. I responded back, via e-mail, and accepted the position. Eventually I received relevant paperwork. My supervisor didn't call me until the week before I entered, and it wasn't an interview. It was to get me up to speed on the type of work I would be doing.

Even if interviews are a necessary prerequisite to being hired, any of you could get the call this week. Maybe the very reason they extended it until Friday is because they haven't completed their interviews yet. Who knows?

well, wow, a 3.6 or 3.7 is AWESOME for engineering. If you are going to a top 20 engineering school, you are doing just fine!

im just a knack or hair below a 3.0, however, I dont know if they are going to take course rigor into account. my engineering school, while i dont wanna name it, has produced the current CEO of Apple who just replaced steve jobs for now, we have the most astronauts from one school in the nation, and we had guys that worked on appollo 13 and the list goes on and on and on, haha.

i shoulda added all that in my application, but i dont know how i coulda brought it up lol, nonetheless it being fair, etc, i dunno hah

George: thanks! yeah, I'm just crazy and think that I need a super-high GPA to be OK. I don't go to a top 20 school, although I could've, because I can't afford it. Go to school right *next* to a top next school though (quite literally a 15 minute walk away!)

Anyway, Envoy: I agree! Maybe they want to make more calls! OR maybe we're all so brilliant and fantastic they have no idea how to narrow it down I like to think on the bright side of things...

I think I'm freaking out about this a little more because it will be the first place I hear back from for an internship position this summer...fun!

the only thing that annoys me is that the program specifically said it would be a blind process. They shouldn't explicitly say that only to then go ahead and appoint based on people's connections.

i think people are guessing or assuming by saying that people get it based on connections. i dont really think its true. maybe 5 interns get it for connections. a small amount. but not everyone, or even close to the majority

Oh, yeah.

That's why I agree (even though I too was a bit shocked at first) that I think that it *isn't* a favors process. I'm sure loads of rumors are floating around now, what with this increase in wait and all.

Besides if it was, dont you think that they would have filled their 100 or however many internship spots by now and we all would have recieved rejection news

Anyway, let's keep the faith! I'm sure it'll all turn out fantastically for all of us!

(random: if there are 4000 applicants or whatever, all obsessing like us, why aren't they on this thread!? lol)

How much does everyone think interning at a government agency before will help someone's application?

Jaw... I'm kinda hoping it guarantees acceptance. More likely, though, it probably depends on what you made of the experience and the knowledge, skills and abilities you got out of it. I highly recommend anyone interested in public service intern at a government agency. That said, there are a lot of other ways you can serve your country and community.

I think, for both White House Interns and White House Fellows, they're looking more for future leaders - of any field - than just government bureaucrats. (You can't even apply for White House Fellowships if you're a government employee...)

If I dont end up getting in, Im probably going to start a Facebook Group for all those that didnt make it, that way, we can stay intouch throughout the year and see how we can reapply and get it the 2nd, 3rd time around, etc.

and we can all share our sorrows and whine and moan then year long lol.

hahaha. so true. I'm going to be freaked out though, once we make facebook groups. Because I have to start thinking about you guys as actual people...not usernames...o_O

hah. Anyways, anyone want to start playing the guessing game of when acceptances will go out. Do people think a trickle throughout the week, or mass floods on Friday, or what?

Hope for: trickle.
Expect: Mass Flood (boo waiting lol)
