I had two interviews and filled out a departmental review two weeks ago, but haven't heard anything else yet.

Does anyone know of someone who was given a departmental review and then turned down?

I was given a departmental review the beginning of May but have not heard back. I have heard it could take up to a month and it's not guaranteed you will pass the review. Also, I know of someone who was accepted then, within weeks of starting, was told they had overhired and no longer needed him. Just all things to think about! Good luck to everyone applying.

Just found out that I am waitlisted for the Fall... womp.

Anyone been in this boat before or know someone who has?? I'm hesitant to believe that people will turn down offers, so at this point I'm starting to look at other options in case this doesn't work out. I've heard that it can take months for people to get off the waitlist...

It's definitely a good idea to look into other options, but I do know a few people who have gotten off the wait-list. You have to keep in mind that by the time the WH notifies people, a lot of applicants have written them off and accepted other offers (since they take so long!!), and, unfortunately, there are some people who can't afford it, so they turn it down because of that.

On the bright side, you have heard before the spring 2013 deadline, so you can totally apply again! And you should! People do sometimes get it the second or third time around, especially if you got so far in the process this time around.

Chin up--the fact that you made it this far means that they WANT you, but they just don't have the space. Go for it again, and in the mean time, look into other summer possibilities just in case. You're clearly cut out for public service and great work, so embrace that!

Nope haven't heard anything besides departmental review .. I thought that wait list applicants would come out after accepted applicants .. Unless the first batch has already come out

I just submitted all of the departmental review, background check paperwork. After e-mailing it in, did you guys get any confirmations that it was received?

I will be entering my sophomore year in college with 53 credits next fall. I am considering applying for the white house internship for next spring. I ended last semester with a 3.6 and my cumulative GPA is a 3.3. I am a double major in Political Science and Economics. I am a Finance Intern on Senator McCaskill's re-election campaign. During the 2008 election cycle, I worked on President Obama's campaign and in 2010 on a congressman's campaign. I am a member of College Democrats and am planning on becoming more involved on campus next semester. My political science professor is writing me a letter of recommendation and I'm working on having Senator McCaskill do the same. Does any one have any advice or any idea on my chances of landing the internship? Thanks.

@Future Dj, You seem very well qualified for the internship but I also think that it depends on what office you are applying too. Some offices may receive more applicants than another office. Even though it is competitive, I can definitely see you landing at least an interview! GOODLUCK! You should def. apply, most of us are still waiting to here back for fall 2012
