dee: thanks for the encouragment :P I definitely need it. I think I've applied or sent my resume to 7-8 places so far, and more to go probably...
also out of the blue but, what HS did you go to? If you're graduating this year you were an '05 HS Grad right?

dc intern housing

Dee you seem to know about intern housing or at least cheap housing in d.c. My daughter is looking for housing in d.c. where she hopes to intern this summer. Do you have any suggestions of these "group houses" you mentioned. Do you know anything about other housing options for someone coming from out of town who will have little or no furnishings?

Awesome-I’m graduating from the University of Mary Washington. What college are you attending? By the way, you’re talking about TJ the magnet school, right?

Hopesalive-group houses with available rooms are easiest to find on craigslist.com. If you go under “wash dc” and click “rooms/shared” under housing you will find many. The only negative aspect I would say, is that most of these houses have very few bathrooms (they are old for the most part). They were built for families so a lot of the time you might have 4-5 bedrooms and only one bathroom. But if you’re willing to work with it, you can find a good deal.

There is also another way you can go. They also have dorm style housing in dc, where visiting interns, international students/interns and people re-locating to dc share rooms in a house together. There are like…two bunk beds per room or something so its very much like a dorm….but they charge you by the week, or you can rent for the month or two months and they give you a nice discount. They will also give you a discount if you are a student (I think you need to show them a passport and student ID). Also, everything is furnished here….you really need nothing. They provide you with towels/linens, public computers with internet, washer/dryer, cable, free long distance calling, free car parking and more.

Below is the website for the one I’m talking about. Hope this helps.

Sorry sorry sorry! I'm here! I didn't want to post anything until I had my interview. Just got off the phone with the correspondence office for the interview... GULP!

I think it went pretty well! They were very very nice and friendly. They had five questions for me to answer then I had an opportunity to ask my own questions about the program. My understanding is that they are taking 16 interns (the correspondence office is). The correspondence office operation sounds... HUGE!

She said either Friday or Monday hahaha. Sigh... so still no resolution on that one!

Thanks for posting all the housing info dee!

Has anyone else heard anything? You guys are awesome!

that's a lot of interns! Hey-- does anyone remember if the total # of interns is 100 or 200? I think I kept reading conflicting articles about the numbers (or is there even a set number?).
Were the 5 questions toughies or were they more about your application type things (i.e. expand on your essay or whatever).

Nothing here ): Dont know what that means... I'm starting to think not good..

well, best of luck to you apple! I hope you hear back Friday haha

hey apple fan thanks for the message..

QUICK questions: did they schedule an interview time with you on Monday or Tuesday, or just call you at random sometime this week? was this your first call from them? what kind of questions did they ask you?

Thanks

Ahh I'm so glad I found this!! I've been checking my email at least every 20 minutes since yesterday because I had no idea there were concrete(ish) dates we'd be notified...I'm only going to be a sophmore next year so I know it's a long shot, but I'll still be shaking in my boots until an email comes Friday or Monday... My top 3 were all communications offices, President then Vice President then First Lady.

EDIT: Just went back in the posts and noticed someone asked where people had applied...my bad!

kt: so glad another sophomore is here to endure this with me!

Yeah, apparently we hear by Monday. But apparently apple through a phone interview learned that (s)he (side note: whoa, I don't know ANYones gender o_O) might hear tomorrow as well.

did you get a phone interview or no?

The semi-frustrating thing is that there are so few of us (so far) on CC that I can't judge whether or not we should expect a accept/not accept based on if we got an interview (i.e. did all offices interview or no). Oh well, only a few more days

I would imagine that all departments are doing interviews since Communications is. Looks like it's a no go for me since I haven't interviewed

Hey hey, at least ya'll got confirmation emails haha. Yeah, I have pretty much lost any hope, but that gives me another year to get together more experience. By that time I'll have a lot more under my belt. Good luck to everyone, and if you get it, make the most of it. I'll get my chance later, and that's a promise, .
