If I didn't receive an email or phone call about an interview, does that mean I'm out of the running? Or do only certain departments do interviews?

So ominous jaydee, lol. I think the fact that they are still conducting interviews this week is good news for those who haven't heard anything yet, because it means you could still hear from them. I think it is very strange that you would get that email and no phone call, so I am keeping me fingers crossed for you (and the rest of us on this board!) I just want to know already so I can either get really excited or be really sad, and then move on!

First time poster here. The suspense is killing me. I too am a law school graduate.
I had a phone interview a few weeks ago. It was pretty awkward, to be honest. As a result, I don't have any expectations, but I'm dying to know!

Yeah, I am also a law grad studying for the bar. How difficult is it to focus on community property while checking your phone/refreshing your email every five minutes waiting for this thing to break? I am slowly losing my mind!

Glad to hear I'm not the only law grad applying. FTR np006, I'm very psyched about the idea of working in the White House, frankly, I'd have to be extremely excited given what a reckless decision it is with $150k of student loan debt and no guaranteed job at the end of it. It is unfortunate for those of you coming out of undergraduate school, and a symptom of the bad economy - Lawyers with experience are getting laid off, so I can't compete with them for the jobs I'd really want, so I'm setting my sights a little lower, which makes things harder for people with just a UG degree. I asked the guy in the interview about law grads specifically, and they said they try to get a range of background experiences, so I'm sure they aren't going to fill the intern class with law grads, but I think you're right that it puts you guys at a disadvantage relative to other years.
I felt my interview was a little awkward too. I didn't feel a lot of chemistry with the interviewer, in fact, I felt like he'd done 15 interviews that day and had 15 more to go. Hard to make an impression when the whole thing was that businesslike.
Good luck for you guys studying for California. Fortunately, I'm only studying for the Massachuestts bar, which has more than double the passage rate.

Hello everybody.
Currently, I'm a rising sophomore majoring in Economics. I am interested in applying for a White House Internship for Summer 2010 (meaning I will be a rising junior). My top choice will probably be the National Economic Council. I've held a couple of internships during my freshman year (one of which was in a political office), and will probably resume the latter during the upcoming fall.
I was wondering if there was any information on what types of candidates get in, how competitive admission is, etc. Am I ahead of the game here or is there some substantial ground I have to make up to be considered for an internship? I.e., am I up against thousands of Harvard political science bigheads or does an ordinary person like me have a legitimate shot a superb opportunity like this?

Hi Everyone,
I'm so happy to have found this site, cause the knots in my stomach are unbearable...I try to only check my email everu 6 hours or so, in the day time.
I'm between 25 & 30 years and am an Army Veteran. I have a BA in International Relations & Political Science, and completed 2 internships in my undergrad. One in DC for a Senator, and one in South Africa for an NGO. My Major GPA's are both over 3.0.
I submitted my application on the 26th of May and got a confirmation on May 29th, then I got an update email on June 25th saying they would notify us the week of July 6th.
I never got any interview email or anything like that.
I'm not in law school and don't plan to attend. I've just been looking for work and not finding anything, and I've always wanted to do a white house internship, so I applied.
I'm hoping they don't have time to interview everyone they select, and some people will just get an email congratulating them on being accepted, and then they send you a package in the mail.
I wish everyone here luck, and hope you are enjoying ur summer despite this white house stress.
Peace

Ifyouseekamy, I second your wish that they are simply not interviewing some people. Even though I am only an undergraduate, I have done some paid political work in the past, including working as a community organizer, and my references, through pure happenstance, vastly outshine my socio-economic station. Here's hoping that through a cosmic coincidence, everyone who posts on this site gets an acceptance. I'm putting a note in the Kotel tonight.

I talked to an extremely reliable source involved with the Internship and was told the White House would be sending out emails tomorrow, or early next week. Regardless, they should be sending a response tomorrow according to the source. Hang in there guys!

I have a feeling we are going to get an email tomorrow telling us that we are going to have to wait until next week. I hope that's not the case, but it doesn't sound they are done picking the class yet, so I am betting they have us wait.
