They can take as long as they like, as long as it's a Yes.

Does anyone know if they're for sure telling us today? Has anyone received anything? I'm getting so nervous!

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who just got this email:

Dear applicant--

Thank you again for applying to the 2009 Fall White House Internship. At this time we have not made our final selections. All candidates will be notified next week of the final selection. We are sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience.

Thank you again for your commitment to public service.

Sincerely,

The White House Internship Program Team

I got the email just a few minutes after I wrote my last post. I guess we'll just have to stick it out over the weekend!

Red Robin- I certainly hope that's the case, especially since they stopped taking applications more than five weeks ago, so if they don't want us, they're not going to take anyone. Maybe some departments really DON'T do interviews. I think it's more likely that they simply left the process for too late, and haven't sorted through everything yet. Maybe people will still get interviews next week, maybe they won't get interviews at all. Either way, its likely that we won't hear anything until the end of next week. They're clearly still wading through applications. I think speculation that we're out of the running is only cruelty to ourselves at this point.

akshar, don't count yourself out. Since not many rising freshman undergrads think they stand a chance, not many applied, even among those that are looking for internships in the fall. Therefore, if they are going for maximum diversity, you stand a fair shot on demographics alone. Certainly enough to warrant a serious look at your application. I've heard of recent high school grads making it into the program. No one is out of the game yet!

i think np006 should be awarded the cheerleader of this board

well, im looking forward to waiting another week. and by that, i mean friday. upon which we'll receive notification that they need another week to decide... lol.

at this time, im anxious to hear my status not just because i'd love this opportunity, but also bc time is running out on finding reasonably priced housing in D.C. anyway, i hope the board becomes more active during our last stretch (*crosses fingers*)

I talked to a reliable source and was told that people would be notified either today, tomorrow or Wednesday. I still think they are going to tell us on Friday though knowing them! HAHA....

I'll take that award. I certainly don't want to rush them to such a monumental decision based on purely practical matters, but you're right: hopefully some of us are going to need to start looking for housing soon. The program starts in seven weeks! I also predict Friday.

Good point Red-Robin. I'm doing an internship in the fall through a program that guarantees me an internship. If anyone is looking for housing you can check out WISH (Washington Intern Student Housing) and google it. I don't know how many openings are left for the fall but it's a suggestion. I guess what makes it difficult for these people to decide on interns is that they have to go through these applications and pick who they want, on top of having to do their regular job. Hopefully we'll all find out soon. It's beginning to become a saga or a movie that's an hour too long!

LOL @politico! Thanks for the helpful info.

You're right, it must be difficult to choose the new internship class and perform well at their current jobs. On top of that, they must have at least started doing preliminary background checks since the class is meant to start in a matter of weeks. That no doubt factors into the waiting game.
