For the record, I put that in there about being overqualified because I was worried that when people saw that JDs were getting accepted, they would think that people with BAs don't have a chance, which isn't true. But yes, it's an honor to be selected and I'm happy to be joining others in the program.

If I may say, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It isn't just the comments that people made about their self-perceived over qualifications that some found offensive. I believe its the overall cavalier attitude certain people have displayed towards this internship. A lot of people here put a lot of time into this, and were willing to make significant sacrifices to serve in the White House. The idea that people accepted into the program applied on a whim or out of boredom, did not have enough respect for the process to turn in their applications complete or on time, or don't want to spend the time for the internship if it isn't going to lead to a job...that is quite simply abhorrent.

That's why I commented that the WH was probably NOT monitoring this board. I don't think the same people that spent weeks sifting through applications and signed every email "thank you again for your commitment to public service" would have taken kindly to such jaded dismissal of the monumental gravity of this opportunity.

| Hi - Also an intern
Hi,
I found this site by googling WH Internship program -- Also a recent Law school grad and also will be a fall intern. Was reading previous posts and thought I should put my thoughts...
I sincerely doubt that whichever JDs posted about being 'overqualified' did not mean to be malicious or pretentious. Internships are usually restricted to those in school, particularly for Undergrads, and given the fact that these individuals are beyond that may suggest that they would more qualified for, say, an entry level or mid level job -- a rare thing to come by in this economy. I sincerely doubt they mean to question the integrity of the program or have a sense of entitlement. Yes, it is an honor to be an intern, and there is such as thing as being overqualified for it, but that does not mean they aren't looking forward to the opportunity.
Look forward to meeting you all this fall, but given the tone this board has gone, will probably be the last time you hear from me until then.

Here's my thought: I would love to volunteer in the White House Correspondence Office. That being said, I don't think I could make the same sacrifices and invest the same resources into a volunteer gig as I was prepared to for the internship. If we lived in the DC area, it would be a no-brainer. Would it help with a future internship application? Maybe. And if I had more ample resources, it would be an option. Right now, I think I'm just going to have a hone my application for the spring and avoid the temptation to hex people that got in this semester.

I don't know when I opened it I was midly offended. I mean after everything we went through waiting for this in July they asked us if we want to be volunteers? On top of that we had to resubmit our applications with a cover letter. It seems like np said its the same hours and responsibilities as an intern without the title. Thats not to say it'd wouldn't be a huge opportunity regardless of the position or title but it just seems like a consolation prize for getting rejected. I'd rather wait for the Spring application...

| Spring Application
The Spring Application went live today. They also redesigned the internship section of the whitehouse.gov website. The new Deadline is September 20, with notifications November 15. Happy Thanksgiving, anyone?
