Questions about high school jobs

1. How important is work experience in the college application?

2. I've done my research and I haven't found any available internships aligning with my medical interests in my local region. Will working as a web designer at a recreation center do? I have a pretty lengthy list of extracurriculars already so this won't look like a redundant add-on would it?

3. Which is more preferable? 20hrs/week volunteering or 10hrs/week job?

Thanks for your help!

Jobs are important on a college app. It will show how hard working you are, when most kids applying to college never have really worked that hard in their lives.

You can work as a web designer, but if you are going to major in pre-med and there are no internships in your area related to the topic than you can volunteer at the American Red Cross and learn how to do CPR, ect.

To be honest, 10 hrs/week job is probably going to look better on your app. But those 10 hrs have to rigorous. If you get an internship at an office then that might show some hard work, but at an office, you're sitting or copying papers. No offense that is kind of easy work. You can do 20 hrs of volunteering, if you want instead of 10hrs of a job every week. It has to be something rigorous. Some examples are building homes, or working in a soup kitchen that serves a lot of people per day.

Good luck.
