Do you career tests really match what would interest you? I mean, they're just like 40-50 yes or no questions if you like an activity. I don't understand why so many schools make students take these tests. If you like something, you should major in it or do it, unless it's too of an unrealistic or unavailable major/job. I don't think you should base your life on career tests.

What do you guys think? Have you taken any of these tests and what was your result compared to your desired career?

Just to sure with you I got Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judgment (ESTJ) on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Yo, that's nice that military and police officer is a job I can like.

Actually there are a number of avenues you can take if you truly are an ESTJ. the careers you indicated are way down the list of those appropriate for this type. Other more probable possibilities could be manager in business, in school ---which could be a principal, etc. I have a professional interest in the MBTI. The first step is to 'validate' your type; i.e., read a good description and see if it is a match for you. If it is, then you can google Careers for ESTJ and you will find many links. This will show you numerous other possibilities. If I were working with you I'd add the Strong to look for matches with the MBTI.

I've come more and more to trust personality indicators and feel that one should align their degree/career path with what the indicators suggest in order to have fulfilling career. I am an ENTP, and fit the mold exactly. I have not always followed the paths I should when looking at myself through M/B goggles and have regretted it every time.

Note M/B is not a career guide, it's a self awareness tool. It is telling you what you value, not only in yourself but in others. So don't think that it is telling you what you should do. It's is trying to tell you who you are, you should then decide if job XYZ will allow to be that person.

In my case ENTPs are creative problem solvers who thrive on 'figuring it out'. If I am place in a situation or job where I am just told how to solve something and to just orchestrate the efforts I will find no satisfaction. However, an ESTJ may enjoy this exercise in administration because they will see the efforts as practical and having purpose and thus will find it rewarding.
