Internship in Los Angeles

Hi ladies and dudes,

Currently I study commercial management in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In a year from now, I'll have the opportunity to go on internship abroad. I'd really like to do this in Los Angeles. I have been to New York twice in my life now, and Los Angeles is also really a place I'd like to visit. Especially the weather looks appealing to me.

My school doesn't do anything for me in helping me find anything, and I have to arrange everything myself. That includes the job itself, and a place to stay.

Are there any websites that can help me find anything? I really have no clue and I really don't know where to start. Also, do I have any chance of moving in with someone on a campus or frat house or anything? If something like that would be possible, it would be a lot cheaper for me to actually do it. I'd like to know what are the area's most college people live.

If my questions come across as stupid, well..., I don't really care, but this site looks the right place to ask them, hehe.

Thanks

UCLA provides housing for its summer students and we have an internship course that provide 4 units of credit towards an economics course. The cost of the course and housing is going to be a lot for an international student but if you have housing, it'll help out in the internship search. There aren't many companies in the LA area that pay for housing, or even a stipend. Unless you're interning for a bank. Accounting internships pay well also. Entertainment internships don't pay jack crap.

NY is good because of the housing availability for interns. LA is not so generous, public transportation can be a drag. If you work in downtown and live on the westside, that's a 1-1.5hr commute by bus.

First thing first, secure housing. And then start looking for an internship. Firms will take you much more serious.

In internship hunting, I would excise the word "dudes" in any usage from you vocabulary. I suppose "dudettes," which I've seen, is worse.

Try craigslist, the only problem with most craigslist internships are unpaid.
