"Extreme Blue" internship experience

Can anyone comment on their experience with the IBM Extreme Blue internship (my son is looking at technical, not MBA, but I'd appreciate answers from both)? When were you notified that you were accepted and how did the program work out for you? How was the whole experience - how much time did you spend at work, and how was life after office hours? ie., were there others like you to be with or was this a problem? What would you feel was your main qualification that got you in? Was it other work experience or your involvement in trade groups such as IEEE and ACM?
