I am not in the ranking business. Look up which recruiters go to Notre Dame.

Where would Gonzaga University rank for investment banking on the west coast?

Caltech is actually up here with Stanford. Obviously, most Caltech students are not interested in business/finance. But those that are get placed just as well as Stanford students. I've heard that McKinsey, for example, likes to recruit Caltech students.

I have never seen or heard of any caltech students working in investment banking. I know some really strong trading firms, places like DE Shaw, recruit at caltech, but I would not consider it a target school for people trying to get into IBD. I'm pretty sure the bank I work at does not actively recruit from caltech for IB.

Stanford is obviously the top target in the west coast, followed by berkeley, usc (trojan network is very strong in LA), and maybe ucla.

Perhaps the fact that you have not seen many Caltech grads in IB is because of the reason that was quoted?

Nonetheless, I'd agree that most IB firms probably do not do OCR. However, I would think that Caltech grads would have equal chances as a Stanford grad, for example, if they get their resume forwarded through networking, or even if they just apply online.

I have been watching this tread for a while and figured I'd put in my 2 cents. I'm an Econ major at Berkeley and although I cannot rank the west coast schools due to my lack of familiarity with most of them, I can say that there is significant on campus recruiting at Cal. There are scheduled recruiting visits this fall by B of A Merryl Lynch, Citi bank, Barclays, JP Morgan, and many other smaller firms. I'm not sure how many interns are going to get hired from Cal this year, but there does seem to be plenty of oportunities for those students who are interested. I don't know how the recruiting here compares to a school like Stanford but I figured I would contribute to this tread for those who are considering going to Cal but got nervous by the rankings others have posted on here.

There is indeed significant recruiting at Cal, as I just went to the IB Forum yesterday and many major/mid-size banks were there. Most of the reps were recent Cal grads (c/o 2012). There are also numerous info sessions with more big banks as well as Accounting/Consulting Forums with all the big players present.

Of course, to get an IB job out of Cal you have to take some necessary steps (networking, join biz frats/consulting groups, high GPA are musts). But these are the same steps out of any school.
