My chances for a IB internship next summer

Im going to be a sophomore at the Ohio State University this coming fall and Im currently planning to major in International Business. However, I want to change my major to finance because I recently became interested in investment banking. But I have one slight problem, I goofed off my freshman year and my GPA is a low 2.5. I know I can do a lot better than a 2.5. Anyways, I'm classified as a pre-business student because I haven't yet officially applied to Fisher College (business college at OSU). And you need at least a 3.0 gpa to get accepted. So I'm planning on improving my gpa so I can apply to Fisher next summer and be an official undergrad business student to start my junior year. NO MORE GOOFING OFF, I'm planning on getting a 3.7 gpa or more, again, I know I can do it.

I also want to apply to IB internships for this coming summer. What do you guys think my chafes are? OSU is a pretty reputable public university so Im sure that will help me. Im also trilingual, I can speak Mandarin and Spanish fluently. As far as work experience (internships) I have none, and I'm planing on joining the International Business Club and the Finance Club this fall. Now, of course Im talking about small banks and firms, anywhere I could get IB experience would be awesome. And when do you usually apply to the internships?

Cheers

Very poor. To be brutally honest, in my opinion, your resume will get tossed very quickly due to that GPA.

How does that mathematically work out, that you raise a 2.5 GPA to 3.7 over one year?

Unless you took like 15 credit hours this year, and you take like 50 next year, how does that even average out?

If you took the same amount of credits every year, and got a 3.7 soph and junior, you'd be applying for internships with a 3.3 GPA. Although Ohio State is a quality university, why would a firm choose a 3.3 and no work experience from OSU over the thousands of applicants from ivies, mit, stanford, uchicago, duke etc.?

If you didn't notice, I ignored your sophomore year summer as an opportunity to break into an IB internship. Why? You'll have a 3.1 with NO business courses yet.

Regardless, best of luck.
