Theater Minor

Hey everyone. I was wondering what anyone here knew about minoring in theater at Ithaca. I didn't get in to any musical theater programs yet. I have one to hear from and one BFA acting to hear from too, but I don't have high hopes for either, so I'm exploring my alternatives, one of which is going to Ithaca, where I was accepted for English even though I was not accepted in to the musical theater program, and minoring in theater/getting private voice lessons and taking dance classes locally. I've emailed the theater department to ask them about the minor. It appears, from the wording on the website, that anyone can declare theater as a minor without an audition and it's not a ton of credits, but at least you leave with something that shows you did take theater courses. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Bumping because I'm interested in the answer to this question as well.

Well I'll tell you what I know at this point, which is not much. I've emailed my questions to both the theater arts department and admissions and neither of them answered me. I also posted this is the general Ithaca College forum on this site and I got some responses there, so you might want to check that out. If I ever can get someone to tell me anything else, I'll post it under this thread...

A minor in theatre arts really isn't that difficult from what I've read in the academic catalog. It does, however, say that minors must be declared with consultation with the department office. These are the course requirements that it says in the catalog:

Credits in the minor
305-10000 Theater Production (to be taken concurrently with 305-10200)
1 credit

305-10200 Stagecraft
2 credits

305-16000 Introduction to the Theater
3 credits

305-13100 Acting I (Students must complete 6 credits of required theater courses before taking 305-13100.)
3 credits

Total: 9 credits

Electives from the following:
319-23000 Analysis and Performance of Literature

319-33300 Analysis and Performance of Prose

319-33400 Group Performance of Literature

319-33500 Analysis and Performance of Poetry

Any theater arts courses not restricted to majors only

Total: 9 credits

Total, minor in theater: 18 credits

Honestly, I think it might be more worth your time to spend next year as an English major and then interview in the fall/winter to be a double major with a BA in Drama. That's just what I would suggest.

Maybe we'll see you in the fall!

Oh, yeah, I absolutely want to try and switch into the BA theater program for the next year, but I want to get the minor going incase it doesn't work out or something. Because if I switch into the BA program I'm dropping the english thing. I mostly picked it as a backup, never thinking I would actually have to use it. I mean, I like English, but I don't want to study it for 4 years. Maybe as a minor, but not as a major. Do you know if it is possible to interview for this program for the spring semester? Anyway, I'll definately be there in the fall, though. I sent in my deposit about a week ago, and exciting college-related things have just started show up in the mail Thanks for the information!
