hotels/motels

I did try to search this topic in this site but had no luck. Sorry if I am asking for repetitive advice...But is there any preference to either the Hilton gardens or Marriott Courtyard in Ithaca especially in regards to proximity to campus? Also, Are there hotels in walking distance to campus? Could someone maybe share their info about the lodgings at Ithaca. Thanks

The hotels are not in walking distance to campus. The town of Ithaca is within two miles. We stayed at the Super 8 motel which I recall being on a main drag in Ithaca near restaurants and 2 1/2 miles to campus (six minutes). I tend to pick hotels as close to schools as I can get and as cheap within reason that I can get, given the great expense of traveling to all these auditions (some of which involved flights but Ithaca did not.....though we combined it with the Syracuse audition weekend and the place we stayed at Syracuse was nicer but the hotel by Ithaca was just fine and we went to a good restaurant nearby). We barely spent time at the hotel by Ithaca but to sleep.

One thing, Ithaca is not an easy town to navigate. Make sure you have a good map that is up to date. The Courtyard is on the other side of town, but is a pleasant place to stay.

We stayed at Hilton Garden Inn 2 nights (for free) when we visited Ithaca in July. It was lovely. If you are an AmEx rewards points cardholder, Hilton participates in that program. Every little bit helps!

The Marriott is right downtown (if I'm remembering right) near the commons -- it's actually run by the hotel management program at Cornell. I think I would suggest staying at the Marriott just becuase then you won't have to navigate crazy stupid Ithaca one-way streets to get to the Commons, which you're probably planning on looking at (It's sort of the downtown of Ithaca for Ithaca College kids. There's a different one for Cornell). There are signs to get up to IC, so that's not as difficult.

Actually, the Marriott is not downtown or near the commons. It is on the main road north out of Ithaca. It is not close to Ithaca College, but is close to the back road which runs north of Cornell. It is where we always stay even though it is out of the way.

Eek!! Sorry, I mixed them up!! The HILTON is the hotel that's downtown, not the Marriott, I just looked it up. I went to IC for 2 years, you'd think I'd remember right!

ANYWAY -- the HILTON is right next to the commons.
Thanks for the correction, llong

No problem. I just remember getting lost in Ithaca two of the three times we have been there for college visitations and masterclasses. It is a beautiful town with beautiful views, but the roads are seriously demented. HaHa
