Recordings for off-site auditions

Board members (couldn't resist!)

Forgive me if this has been written about before; a perusal of many threads on the IC list did not turn up anything.

My daughter is auditioning offsite for Ithaca's BFA in MT program. Last week, she received a letter confirming her date and time. It also said that in addition to bringing with her recorded accompaniment cued to her 16- and 32-bar cuts, she was also to bring recordings of her singing those 16- and 32-bar cuts. It said that these recordings could be on CD or tape.

Is this something new? I swear that it has been discussed here before. But when I have brought it up with some people who are also auditioning for Ithaca, they seem surprised.

I have a few students auditioning for Ithaca. I go over all of their requirements and come up with an audition materials master plan and I know I have on these particular kids' plans that for Ithaca, IF auditioning OFF campus, they need an accompaniment tape/CD and ALSO must have an audio tape or CD recording of themself singing the song portion of the audition ready to submit.

I don't know if this is new this year or not as this isn't the case ON campus (where my D auditioned, as have some others I know). But this is the requirement for off campus this year (could have been in past but truly not sure on that aspect).

(I happen to have one student's folder open at the moment as I just was reviewing her Ithaca essays)

It was required last year too as my daughter needed a copy for the NY Unifieds. Many kids didn't even have a copy with them! They said something about it helping them to remember the kids auditioning (I guess they don't video record or anything).

Yes, it has been a requirement for at least the past two years. They are pretty lax if someone has forgotten it, they just ask you to mail it in ASAP. Scatterbrained me, I actually completely forgot to mail in anything, and I was still accepted. Now, this doesn't mean I'm advocating not sending one in, because that is NOT the case, just saying that you shouldn't stress if you don't have access to a studio and can only record with a handhold recorder or something similar. It doesn't seem to play a huge part in their decision.

I just got that letter too. Do they ONLY want CD or cassettes or could I give them a copy of my audition video?

What size cassettes are OK --- the regular old ones or the mini ones?

I'd bet they're expecting regulars
