Two Big Changes at Ithaca ... Test-Optional + Early Action

Ithaca College has announced two major changes for applicants entering in the fall of 2013 and thereafter.

Standardized tests will no longer be required for admission (except for home-school students and those from ungraded high schools. And TOEFL scores will still be required for non-native speakers of English).

Ithaca will also offer an Early Action plan (IN ADDITION to Early Decision, not INSTEAD of). Note, however, that the EA deadline is December 1, with notification by Feb. 1 (late by most EA standards).

See Intercom - Ithaca College adds Early Action and makes standardized tests optional for applicants for more on the new policies.

Thanks you for the information Sally. Do you know if there is a list somewhere of the all the colleges that are test optional?

Boston-based FairTest does a great job of advocating for test-optional admission and of keeping track of all the colleges that opt to waive traditional test requirements. You'll find their list here:

An UNgraded high school is one that provides only comments on report cards rather than letter or number grades.

This just made me laugh. Look at this:
Ithaca College announced yesterday it will raise tuition 4.88 percent for the 2012-13 academic year, bringing tuition to $37,000 with room and board rising to $13,400. The total cost of attendance will be $50,400.

Do they really think that changing their admissions policy is going to help when their tuition is so absolutely stratospheric for a school that really doesn't have any name recognition outside of upstate New York?

And a 4.5 percent increase in tuition is great because everyone in America got a raise last year, and we all know that the price of gasoline is going down, and everyone's investments did so well. What are these people smoking?

I think Ithaca has name recognition outside of upstate New York, especially the Park School.

I think its great that Ithaca added an option to apply Early Action, althought I completely agree with Momzie's opinion.

Also is quite well known for music education.

But I do agree about the price tag!
