| Freshman Housing Process
just so everyone knows, housing and dining just put up a new section on their webpage dedicated to our housing process! we can now fill out the roommate questionnaire and i assume we'll be getting our forms in the mail any day now  General Info

Housing packets were sent to Early Decision students on March 12th. Strong suggestion ... do not complete any online forms until you receive this packet of information. There are important instructions to follow, and you really don't want to mess up your first official college forms.

I would make sure that you take a tour of all three buildings before you commit. They all are different so make sure you see them first.

Argh! Can't tour, visited Hopkins twice already but could not see dorms. D will just have to take her chances.
What do you think we did all those years ago without an internet to show us videos, etc of dorm life? I went from SoCal to JHU and never, ever been in a college dorm in my life!

They have 3 open house sessions in April to come down to the campus and visit and they will let you in the dorms. If you can't come, oh well.

JHU dining sucks, and the housing is UBER expensive, especially when compared to off-campus housing. It's wayyy cheaper to live in an apartment or house than on campus.

Their dining has gotten better. They fired the previous catering company and hired a new one, and a lot of people have said that the food's actually pretty decent now.
...which doesn't mean it's not expensive.

dining dollars...the biggest ripoff ever, except for hopkins housing...my colon will never be the same again after eating at the fresh food cafe everyday freshman year, don't get me wrong the food's decent but man, they put something in there that doesn't agree with the bowels

Yeah, they fired Sage but it still sucks. Trust me, I'm a student and if you look at my other posts I might as well be a shill for JHU but the one thing I hate is the food...dining dollars are a ripoff, the meal plan is so limited, and the FFC makes me ill.

Wow...sounds like a lot of us jaded Hopkins kids are pretty bitter abt our freshman year lol. But yeah, for you kids coming in and invading our space next year, here's some advice:
The freshman dining hall-known oh so affectionately as FFC--is horrible, but has improved slightly with a bread bar and baked desserts bought from a local Baltimore bakery (i forgot what the name of it was, but they make good chocolate cake and cheesecake). But you're stuck with a meal plan, so might as well make full use of it. Don't get a 19-meal plan--you'll never use that many meals.
Also, in terms of dorms, Wolman is good in the sense that it has kitchenettes, private bathrooms, and decent rooms. However, some of the double rooms are forced as are some triple rooms.
Building A, B, and the AMRs are good in that they're basicall on campus and thus easier to get to FFC and ur classes than Wolman, which is far away and off-campus (altho next to Charles Street Market, Subway, UniMini, and other things at Charles Village that you will grow to love--u will spend ur dining dollars mostly at CharlesStMkt).
Socially, Wolman is kind of antisocial as are Building A and Building B, but the AMRs, despite being social (and typically partygoers to the frats) have crappy facilities like bathrooms that are shared by as many as 6-8 people. Also, the AMRs have no A/C.

If you're waitlisted, you'll probably get stuck in either Bldng A, or Bldng B, or Wolman.
