| JHU official admissions decisions thread
OK so... since I was rejected from Hopkins.... i'll put this thread up- because i no longer have a life. lol. i guess publishing two research papers - doing research since I was 15- at UC freaking LA, hundreds of hours of community service, dancer-ness (in everything from ballet to hip-hop), 13 APs, siemens westinghouse- and more -wasn't good enough. LOL!!!!! I hope the dumb rich kids hey accepted with negative IQs ruin their school!!!!

ndhanji: they probably saw your post on Help me pick WashUstl vs Johns Hopkins and decided that they didn't want to accept someone who would take washU over them. one of their admissions officers, daniel, often visits cc to "answer" questions people post about JHU... so... yeah- they have spies.. it really sucks. LOL...HAHA.

Waitlisted. Crossing my fingers. Hoping for a miracle I guess. One I'm probably not going to get after going through four years of IB classes and spending countless hours with clubs.
obnoxious1- Siemens Westinghouse and UCLA? I'm impressed.

GPA: 93 average. My school does not weight.
SAT: Math 640, Critical Reading: 660, Writing: 630
(Total: 1300/1930)
Awards/ Honors/ Competitions: I don't want to give specific titles since you could easily find my identity but one was a nationally recognized writing competition. Also placed at the state level for sports a couple of times.
Clubs/ Positions: NHS, Tri-M, Literary Magazine, and a zillion others. I held a couple of jobs too
Arts/Instruments: Piano, Saxophone
Sports: track, xc, crew
Community service: Started w/ the Boys and Girls Club this winter. I am not sure if I even told JHU about this or not. It was just for my own experience really.
Major: Writing Seminars
programs/scholarships: I got really nice financial aid. My family makes 100K+
Sex: Female
Ethnicity: Hispanic
socioeconomic status/ is your daddy Zeus or something?: This category should really be titled "Who is your daddy and what does he do?" (...anyone?)
requested fin aid?: yes
legacy: not at all
Extra comments: I am shocked I got in, but I worked really hard on my essays and I think my awards helped me to stand out. My SAT scores were clearly the weakest part of my application.

Well, I only told her to pick WashU because I thought that would have been a better option for her considering all the information she presented.
I truly love JHU and I have been wanting to go there for the past 4 years and what I tell others shouldn't exhibit my personal preferences because myself and the one to whom I responded most likely have different goals and different outlooks on life. |

lol obnoxious i think ur ...lying? haha no offense. but hopkins value research like no other. so having siemanns westinghouse(assuming you made at least regional finalist) intel(assuming again having advanced to a pretty legit position) and all that internship should of guaranteed you in. UNLESS ....you have no other exc's, no officer positions, lowass GPA(not top 10%), and your essays sucked(i.e writing a topic like "my trip to france"), SAT low(below 2100), or you had conduct issues(suspended or disciplined in school). If your merely average in all of those, and had all those legit research you claimed, you definitely should of gottn in.

Or maybe he didn't get in because the bad attitude so obvious in his posts. Maybe he was a boring applicant with 100 others just like him. Maybe it's all a government conspiracy and AdmissionsDaniel is actually the third alien reincarnation of Elvis.
In any event, it doesn't really help you (the OP) or anyone else to sit and ruminate on all the reasons you didn't get in. The best thing to do is give yourself a day or two for your pity party, then focus on the awesome schools who DO want you. If you were rejected, it's likely that you wouldn't have been very happy at Hopkins anyway. The Admissions office is trying to build a community. If they didn't think you would fit in with the community they're creating, why would you want to be a part of it? Complaining on an internet message board in an attempt to "warn the others!" is not going to get the admissions committee to change their mind, or help you to move on.
The same goes for applicants trying to analyze why so-and-so didn't get in, and subsequently freaking out about their own chances. There are a million possible reasons why "obnoxious" was rejected, and no one can can you exactly why - especially given the fact that we know next to nothing about him. Relax. Step away from the computer.
