In fact all competitive universities are the same, put down bio and ur screwed. Only kids who wanna do premed do bio so ur Application is pitted against the best
Hi AdmissionsDaniel, Can you give a quick status of how everything is going? Will you be working over the weekend? Is everything on track for sometime next week? Thanks
I know it's late but I was wondering. If a students has a high GPA (3.7 UW 4.0 W), has excelled in college courses, but his/her SAT score is below 2000, does that warrant a denial? What if that students is severely economically disadvantaged, and has multiple responsibilities? Do you review each applicant in context? How would you review such an application?
If I remember correctly, JHU reviews their applicants holistically, so I don't think your SAT score would doom you to instant denial. Of course, your SAT score matters - but the other components of your applications matter as well. I think Hopkins would be sure to take into account your personal circumstances when reviewing your app.
But I'm not AdmissionsDaniel of course, so I'll leave the official answer to him. (:
Admissions Daniel - Can you give any insight to what housing is really like? My S really wants the dorm experience but during our tour it seemed that would only happen in the first year or two. Thanks
A random question for AdmissionsDaniel... has somebody's post on college confidential ever influenced a college decision for a student? I'm just thinking of those students who post ALLLLL of their stats, then later on the boards say something nasty about the school... has that ever happened for JHU CC boards, and did that affect an acceptance/rejection/waitlist decision?
I just found someone from my school. It was obvious from her chances thread; she listed her state, extracurriculars, ranking, ethnicity, etc... and then she continued on to talk about how much she hated the school's premed program structure. I don't know if there were admissions faculty looking at the thread, but boy... I wonder...
Oh, come on! Don't be silly. I know you asked AdmissionsDaniel, but this is what I think. I'm fairly sure admissions faculty have better things to do in admissions season than to sift through hundreds, very likely thousands, of applicants from a given state to try to potentially match a username to an actual applicant, whose name was not revealed in the first place, by the way. Not only is it a gross misuse of time, it's also very risky. What if you single out the wrong person? I honestly doubt that an applicant's post would have any bearing on a decision. Maybe, just for the sake of it, it could happen, but I think that admissions counselors and staff post on this website in order to answer questions and calm worries, not to scout out those who have negative things to say about their school. Just my two cents!
My guidance counselor called them about that. It does affect it. If u put down bio ur screwed

Read through the link I previously posted (here it is again: Intended Major in the Admissions process?) which explains how intended major matters in the Johns Hopkins admissions review process. As an actual evaluator of applications I think my opinion carries a bit more weight, and it does not agree with what [i]Telandis[/i} posted.

Always the most up-to-date information will be posted to the Hopkins Insider blog: Hopkins Insider. Posting on College Confidential is not in my job description and is only something I do when I have a free moment. If you really want to keep informed about Hopkins use the resources we have set-up including the Admissions Website, Hopkins Interactive, and the Hopkins Insider Admissions blog.

Sorry but my policy is that I do not comment on chances posts or questions about how a specific applicant's circumstances will be reviewed in our admissions process. If you check out the Hopkins Insider blog I have posted numerous times on how the admissions review process works for Hopkins.

I recommend visiting the Housing section of our Hopkins Forums where current students have answered a lot of questions about dorm life and living off-campus in upperclassmen years: Housing

While I am waiting, I am thinking of crabcakes. Admissions Daniel, am I out of my freakin' mind?
I have no idea how to respond to this.

Simple answer = No. More elaborate answer = absolutely not. Since I don't have time to really go into great detail I will say that Pupate's "two cents" is pretty accurate.
