Should I apply? Please chance me

I really really love Johns Hopkins, but I'm a bit uncertain about sending in my application. Asians are evidently 21% of the undergrad population and I feel that it might be futile for me to compete. Could somebody please chance me and see whether or not it would be worth it to send in my RD application?

SAT II: 790 Math II, 770 Chemistry, 750 US History

AP United States History (junior/5)
AP Calculus AB (junior/5) <-- I had to technically skip a grade of math for that

You'll never know unless you apply.

Thanks. I think I am, but it would be really nice to know how much of a chance I have. What I'm doing here I think is trying to justify to myself that I am not wasting my time chasing clouds or something. But yes, I fully agree with your statement.

...Don't you mean it the other way around? Just look at the list of extracurriculars and IBs you have! I'm so jealous.

Btw - go Mathcounts!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us, then.

i'm applying because i love hopkins also, even if i don't think i can get in!

if you really love it and are unsure that you'll make it, go for it regardless. good luck!

Thank you! And you know what? I bet you can get in with your writing skills O "disgustingly modest" one. Your scores really aren't that bad, you know. ;D

Are you joking? I'd put your chances of admission at close to 100%. Your SATs are slightly below average for Hopkins, but your Subject tests are above average, your grades are exceptional, and your ECs are very exceptional.

I'd have a hard time seeing you getting rejected.

I agree with al6200, but I wouldn't say you have a close to a 100% chance. No one has a close to a 100% chance since applicants are considered individually and in competition with other applicants. Additionally, none of us can give you your chances as a percentage since...well, we're not admissions officers with all of the other applicants' files in front of us. I do think, however, that you have an above average chance.

But here's an idea...if you can see yourself happy at JHU, just apply and see where it lands you come April. Forget the fact that JHU is 21% Asian. I applied to Rice University ED (JHU was my third choice) and was accepted even though it's ~24% Asian (I'm Asian too and am from Texas, which makes it harder to get in since about half of Rice's students are from Texas and since Rice is looking for geographic and ethnic diversity).

Good luck!

No one has close to 100%. It's a crapshoot. My friend from HS, who had higher scores, valedictorian, Intel STS semifinalist status, invited to ISEF,... was waitlisted. He's at Columbia now.

I wish I was joking. Thank you very much for all your input though. I guess I've been getting depressed about my chances by hearing too many affirmitive action and rejection horror stories such as the one YanksDolphin mentioned. But congrats freespirit22 about getting into Rice! That is a major accomplishment with all that stiff competition.

Btw - I sent in my application today.
