Stats:
  • SAT: 800 CR, 800 M, 620 W i.e. 2220 total
  • SAT II: 800 MathII, 800 Physics, 700 Literature (can kinda see a trend in the my literature/writing skills, eh?)
  • ACT: N/A
  • GPA: N/A
  • Rank: Top 10%? Current school doesn't rank but in previous school 3/250ish
  • Other Tests: IB predicted grade 41/42. Don't know what my +3 points are for TOK/EE. 11 A's for my GCSE equivalent.
Subjective
  • Essays: One about how amazing IB is and a whole load of pukelicious crap and another about how much I love computers. No idea if they were good, but I still cringe when reading them.
  • Teacher Recs: One neither-here-nor-there and the other very enthusiastic.
  • Counselor Rec: No idea. But he was really irritated with my college indecisiveness when he wrote it, but it couldn't have been that bad.
  • Supplementary Material: N/A
  • Hook: None that I'm aware of.
Personal
  • Location: International. South East Asia. That's all I'm saying.
  • High School Type: Public in fresh/soph and private for jun/sen
  • Ethnicity: Eurasian
  • Gender: Male?
  • Applied for Financial Aid: Yup.
Other
  • Extracurriculars: Animal Shelter volunteer, Tennis, President of General Knowledge Club (don't ask), a few vice president/committee member roles, School Magazine, helped set up AIDS/homeless shelter, whole load of outlandish activities for IB CAS.
  • Awards: Quite a few. Major one is scholarship to do IB. The rest were just subject and awards for school rank.
  • Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: No real advice to give since I am completely ignorant of their selection criteria. Just the usual stuff: take your SATs early, do your university research early, do loads of activities early, etc. All of which I didn't do, which made the whole experience rather nightmarish.

Hopkins does appear brutal this year but they did have a record high number of applicants and when I see all the really good kids posting on these threads - it makes me believe the applicant pool is actually stronger than I believed it to be.

It does appear as though they really do a full holistic review however because the testing range is really all over the place. I think this is good though because Hopkins isn't driven so much by the numbers. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Congrats to those who got in.

Accepted, will post stats later. But I am curious. The subject line on my email said Congratulations from Johns Hopkins University. What was the subject line for rejections and wait lists - bad news or the wait isn't over??? Could you tell from the subject line the way I could?

No. The subject line (at least for wait-lists) was: "Message from Johns Hopkins University."
