Update and answers:
At this moment there is no official update on wait list decisions. The Admissions staff has met and will continue to meet over the next few days to decide whether any students will be admitted off the wait list. Continue to check back for additional updates to come.

So, he says that they'll look for more students, but they've already meet their enrollment figures? Hmmm...

Our Wait List Discussion Thread has been updated with details about our wait list activity on Friday, May 9th. Please read through it here:

Hopkins Forums -> Wait List Discussion Thread (2008-09)

If you want accurate answers to your questions about the Hopkins Wait List, I strongly encourage you to post them to that discussion thread. Additionally updates will be posted there when they become available.

I think that's the summer melt. So I guess I don't really get it. If you've already met your enrollment figures and protected against the summer melt, why are you still looking for more people? Is it to protect against a low-yield for people accepted off of the waitlist? Is it to protect specific enrollment figures (i.e. getting enough computer scientists or enough engineers)?

I saw last year that you did a first round for 40 people and then 40 after that round. I'm not trying to be critical or anything - I just am a little confused about the process.

You could admit me just for fun though : )

I wouldn't be surprised if JHU lost a few people. Harvard announced a few weeks ago that they were planning to admit about 150-175 students off their waitlist, and undoubtedly, many of those students will also have accepted offers from other top schools. If those school lose students, regardless of enrollment figures, they're going to have to pull students off their WL as well. So don't lose hope if you're on there.

al6200:
I am not sure why you are confused. We have met our FINAL enrollment goal ... the number of students we want to arrive in September. That does not mean we will not lose students over the summer - what is known as the summer melt - and what Kyuu alludes to in her post. Therefore, we need to admit a handful of students off the wait list so we continue to maintain our final enrollment target over the summer.

Also, what we did last year has nothing to do with what we do this year. You really should read the Wait List Discussion Thread update again because it is pretty clear how the process works at Hopkins.

Okay, thanks. I misread that the first 30 covered the summer melt (hopefully not though).

Congrats to those who have been accepted off the waitlist. Would you mind sharing:
Which state are you from?
Did you apply with interest in a specific major or as undecided?

Anybody know when the 30 WL students let in have to inform JHU of their decision?
