| HOPKINS for a non-science person
So, would you recommend Hopkins for someone looking to study history? Why or why not? |

| Whenever I've told anyone that I was going to look at Hopkins, he or she has always said, "I thought you wanted to be a history major." Does science just dwarf all other departments at the school? How are the humanities at Hopkins when stacked up against other top schools? | |

| Hopkins has excellent humanities and social science departments. In fact many of the pre meds are NOT sciences majors. The depts stack up very, very well, and are an excellent admissions deal as the word is not out about this as much as the premed/sciences rep is. | |

| Johns Hopkins has English, French, Spanish, Italian, East Asian, Classics, languages ALL ranked among the very top 10 within the past two years. Johns Hopkins has a very very strong and respectable IR program as well. I challenge you to go there and research more yourself.
Art History was #1, along with Economics #5, History #2, along with European and Near and Middle Eastern studies among top #5.
Humanities are just as strong as the Sciences at Hopkins. | |

| Some more sites I recommend to you:
(1) Humanities at Hopkins
(2) Hopkins Forums -> History
Hopkins has a lot to offer to non-science students ... about half the undergraduate population is pursuing majors in the Humanities and Social Sciences. These programs benefit from Hopkins focus of research and a self-tooled education. Just to note, International Studies is actually the most popular major at Hopkins and only about 25% of students consider themselves pre-med. | |

| In addition to Phead128's list, I would add that Hopkins is exceptionally strong in ancient history. It is one of the very few colleges to offer Egyptology and Assyriology and to take undergraduates on digs in Egypt and Syria. Hopkins in Egypt Today | |
