2009-10: Changes to Applying to Johns Hopkins

Over the last month I have posted two Hopkins Insider blog entries detailing changes to the process of applying to Johns Hopkins as a freshman applicant for the Fall 2010 entry term.

Hopkins Insider: Updates to Application Process (2009-10)
This entry detailed the following:

1) There is no longer a Johns Hopkins application option. Applicants will apply with either the Universal College Application or the Common Application.

2) We continue to encourage students to "do the green thing" and apply online. One can apply with a paper Universal College Application or paper Common Application, put we discourage it.

3) Johns Hopkins policy and preference as it relates to the College Board's new Score Choice policy.

Hopkins Insider: Of ... Application Essays and Supplements
This entry detailed the following:

1) A change to the essay policies when applying to Johns Hopkins.

Quote:
Students applying as freshmen to Johns Hopkins using either the Common Application or the Universal College Application must also submit the Johns Hopkins Supplement and must submit two essays. Your first essay will be your submission of either one of the Common Application essay prompts or your response to the Universal College Application personal statement prompt, depending on which application method you select. Your second essay will be the following essay which is included as question #7 on the Johns Hopkins Supplement:

Write a brief essay in which you respond to the following question: Johns Hopkins offers 50 majors across the schools of Arts & Sciences and Engineering. On this application, we ask you to identify one of two that you might like to pursue here. Why did you choose the way you did? If you are undecided, why didn't you choose. (If any past courses or academic experiences influenced your decision, you may include them in your essay.)
2) The availability of the Johns Hopkins Supplement:

Quote:
with this change to our [essay] policies there has been a slight delay with the release of the Johns Hopkins Supplement. We expect the forms to be uploaded and available on the Common Application (CA) and Universal College Application (UCA) sites within the next two weeks (no later than September 15).
If you have any questions about these new policies, they probably have been asked and answered already at the Hopkins Forums:
