I was wondering if being a legacy has the same weight on a transfer application as it does on a freshman application.
Yes it does. (

Furthermore, how many essays should be written by a transfer applicant? Just the one on the supplement or both that one and the broader one suggested by the CommonApp people?
The JHU supplement essay for transfers is the only one required. If you would like to submit one of the Common Application essays you may, but it is not needed.

Also, are there any available statistics for accepted transfer students? Like what their GPAs or various stats were?
We do not release average statistics for transfer students as they vary greatly year-to-year. If you read through the former "transfer" blog entries on the Hopkins Insider blog you can learn a bit about the size of the applicant pool and acceptance rate. Last year the transfer acceptance rate was 8%.

Finally, letters of recommendation are required for a transfer applicant- from who do the letters have to be from? Would it be acceptable to have one from a HS teacher or counselor as well as one from a current professor? Or should they both be professors?
Transfer applicants are required to submit one letter of recommendation from a college professor or college instructor. One may submit an additional letter of recommendation or two, but high school recommendations are not encouraged.
