Anyone from admissions participating?

These threads tend to be most useful for colleges where someone from admissions participates and is open about doing so. That person can answer questions often better than can an individual student or alumnus--and maybe straighten out some nutty threads. Is anyone there from admissions? I'd like some answers to some questions such as, how many people review each admission packett? How important are essays versus GPA versus SAT/ACT scores versus the interview?

A few people look at your app, and then it is reviewed by everyone at a conference table and they vote on it, assuming it passes the initial review. Essays hold a bit more weight at Kenyon than some schools, but your grades and scores are still very important. I doubt anyone from admissions will take the time to post on here, the Kenyon staff is not very large/lacks the free time for such endeavors.

Kenyon director here...I often read the posts and responses but rarely feel the need to post, for the most part replies by alums are dead on.

To answer some of your more specific questions Green-eyes, 2 directors review your file. We're not necessarily a numbers-driven office, in fact one of the first things we look at in a file is curriculum rigor (if you're taking honors, AP, or IB classes and if you have as many years of as many subjects as possible). The stronger the curriculum, the more prepared you are for college level work. Your GPA will be evaluated within that curriculum.

As far as scores go, we expect to see a link between grades and score to some degree (ie if you have amazing, off the chart scores, you should have pretty good grades). We also expect to see balance (your reading/writing skills should not be far above or below your math/science skills).

All essays and short answers are important. They not only tell us what kind of a writer you are, but they also tell us WHO you are as a person!

Hope I could help...

So... my math SAT score was 600, and my CR SAT score was 800... too unbalanced?
