Thanks, Justin. You made a good choice and I hope my son gets to consider Lafayette as well.

Good luck!

I visited Lafayette this past summer....not very impressive....i seemed isolated in a boring little college in the middle of nowhere. guess its not for me.

Daughter settled on Lafayette over Middlebury (too cold), Davidson (too far), Richmond, Franklin & Marshall, Denison, and Hobart & William Smith. Most LACs exist in "bubbles." All of these schools had considerable resources, and attractive campuses. I liked the fact that Lafayette offered engineering in addition to liberal arts - proximity to NYC/Philly and study abroad program also a plus. I believe the class of 2013 has 23 students from China - my daughter's roommate is also from China.

Gasdoc,
Good reasons. Although they contradict Post #18, they are valid. Also, a bump for this thread.

Visiting a liberal arts college over the summer can be a very disappointing journey if one goes expecting to see a lively campus bustling with students. LACs are by and large undergraduate-only institutions, so while a place like Penn State or Cornell will be hopping (more or less) throughout the year because of the presence of large numbers of grad students, LACs are likely to slow down considerably during summer break. I've heard Easton and the Lehigh Valley put down for being gritty post-industrial communities but never as "in the middle of nowhere." The Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton metro area, while it never would be mistaken for NYC or the Balto-Wash metro, is home to more than 800,000 people.

^^^ Right, not to mention Easton is about a 1.5 hour drive to either NY or Philly, hardly the 'middle of nowhere'. Maybe tfeduardo12 is confusing Lafayette with Bucknell or Colgate.
