khan91,

You'll figure out which courses you have to take by using the Class of 2013 registration webpage (forthcoming), and in subsequent semesters, by meeting with your faculty adviser.

To decide on electives, you can consult friends, online course evaluations, the college catalog, etc.

khan91,

You certainly could, provided the int'l texts aren't vastly different.

Justin,

Thanks for all the info. This has been an informative thread.

What the word on the fraternity on campus as to why it may lose its campus privileges?

Justin - I've seen conflicting information regarding course requirements. One thing I read said only 1 math class is needed for graduation. Something else said 4 math courses are needed for graduation. Which is right?

As you would expect, graduation requirements vary depending upon major. You can find most of the information by visiting:

Lafayette College

and opening the link to your planned major. As Justin wrote, your advisor will provide good guidance in selecting courses over your 4 years at Lafayette. Enjoy the experience!

^^^^ OOPS -- clicking on the link will take you to the correct page, then click on "Courses of Instruction" down the left side of the page.

ctyankee,

I think the response to your inquiry about Greek life is summed up well in a previous post:

<<< Well, the administration is always keeping the Greek houses in check. Of course, the houses want to do whatever they want whenever they want, so tension is to be expected. I think it's hard to find a school where Greek life and the administration aren't constantly at odds. With that said, I wouldn't be too worried about a reduction in Greek life anytime soon.

Public Safety has the ability to perform "safety checks" in the Greek houses, and Greek members aren't too happy about that -- that may be what you are referring to.

I should mention that, despite the constant bickering between the administration and Greek life, those involved seem to really relish the experience. >>>

DougBetsy,

As CC user lafparent points out, requirements differ by major. Math majors need to take many more math courses than a chemistry, biology, or engineering major.

Those students who need no math courses for their major still need to take one course, though, as part of our 'Common Course of Study.' So, yes, that means a religious studies major would have to take just one math course over the four years, unless he/she has AP/IB credits to place out of that requirement.

YankeesChamps09,

The recruitment process starts quite early in the Fall semester. Don't worry, though, as you'll be provided enough time to explore your options.

Yes, we do have a "Greek Week" -- here's a write-up of 2007's events: Fraternities and Sororities Celebrate Greek Week 2007.

YankeesChamps09,

Four 'Student Spotlights' are provided on the transfer student portion of the Admissions website: Lafayette College Admissions for Transfer Students. Feel free to contact any of them via email -- email addresses are the last name (up to seven letters) followed by the first initial, then @lafayette.edu. So, if you'd like to contact somebody named John Matherspoon, the email would be mathersj@lafayette.edu.

If you'd like the contact information of other transfer students with interests similar to your own, contact the Admissions person in charge of transfer admissions, Ms. Joan Lichtenwalner, at lichtenj@lafayette.edu.
