Lake Forest College known nationally?

Daughter has decided on LFC. She's very excited, but I still have some concerns. First, LFC doesn't seem to offer enough majors for kids who are undecided. Second, does LFC have any kind of national reputation? Is it known locally, but not in the rest of the country? How does LFC look on a grad school app or resume?

Hmmmm. I went there. Served two terms as a trustee. Yes it is nationally known. I ultimately decided on business school. I applied to three (Dartmouth, U. of Chicago and Northwestern). I was accepted at all three and went to Dartmouth. Regarding majors.... in general undergraduate Liberal Arts is a time to explore and decide. LFC has lots of majors. As an aside, my wife went to Harvard. We both received MBS's (her's from Columbia) and both became bankers. Two routes, but the same end result. Finally, I was a scholarship student, ended up an Wall Street and retired at 39. Lake Forest worked fine for me.

I finished my freshman year at LFC a few weeks ago. Although I've known my desired major for the past 4 yrs (at least), it was not until I took four classes in other disciplines that I realized my interests were so unimaginably broad. I not only shocked my parents, but I'm still in a state of positive disbelief.

LFC is nationally known as a top 2nd tier LAC and has been for decades. Look at any college guidebook/Yale Daily Insiders Guide to the Colleges, rep and stats will be substantiated. From what I've seen re: internships, grad school admissions, community service & club participation, a diverse student body, school spirit, a safe campus, proximity to Chicago. I think your daughter will be in great place.

Finally, if your daughter is attending LFC for the academics, the eight profs I had this yr were talented, accessible and challenged me beyond my assumed strengths. Same for my advisor and LFC's administrative community. I look forward to meeting your daughter on campus this Fall!

I would not say that it is a school that is very well known. Most LACs are not widely known outside of their area. I was surprised that there were so many westcoasters and mid westerners who did not know about Williams, arguably the top LAC. We don't hear much about Occidental or Trinity (TX) or Colorado College, all well known and held in esteem locally.
