Whats the difference between the different dorms on campus? I know one has hardwood fllors and high ceilings... and thats about all I remember from my visit. Next year I'll be at Trever, whats that gonna mean?

Trever Hall is sometimes referred to as "off campus" housing. That's a joke, as the campus is rather compact, and nothing is very far away from, say, Main Hall. It's just the most "remote" of the dorms--about three minutes walk from Main Hall.

I am not sure about Hiett Hall, but I believe the rooms in the other dorms are not air conditioned. (I think this is the case with all but the newest dorms on most campuses in the north. It's true, for example, of many/most Ivies.)

The College Ave Bridge (east of campus and over the Fox River) is being replaced. The project is to take 17 months and should result in a reduction of traffic. (It's out of sight and rather far away--further than suggested by the map, so construction sounds shouldn't be a problem.)

Ormsby and Sage are older buildings with hardwood floors and high ceilings that have been renovated. I believe that Plantz, Colman, Trever and Kohler were built in the 60s. Cement construction, vinyl flooring, wood doors, etc. I roomed in Trever in the early 70s and all those dorms were in existence then. While I presume they have periodically refurbished the dorms over the years, the basic structure and appointments probably haven't changed too much. Things have looked pretty similar when I've been back for reunions. The campus is pretty compact and nothing is really that far away except the sports facilities across the river. A bike can be handy in warmer weather.

Not when I attended. Perhaps they've retrofitted for it. I don't recollect that heat was a significant problem anyway. We did sporadically use window fans. I lived in Brokaw, the Sig Ep house, Trever, and then off campus. No AC in any of them.

Here you go. Some information on Trever...stolen from a link posted last year. Also check out the pictures posted on the school website of rooms in Trever and for that matter all the dorms.

"Relevant to Freshman only-

I lived in Plantz my freshman year as a music major and it was an incredibly social dorm full of freshman Connies (conservatory students). It's the only dorm north of College Ave which means you have to cross the street everyday to eat or go to class. The same cannot be said of Sage which is a more upperclassman kind of dorm and has a more anonymous living style. Doors aren't left wide open like they are in Plantz (most of the time)

I can't say much for the other dorms. I know that Trever (Plantz's sibling dorm) is underrated. Most people overstate the distance factor but the entire campus is quite humble in its size. A walk from one end to the other takes seven minutes. While a view from a Plantz window yields a parking lot and a noisy avenue, you will enjoy trees and a possible view of the river from Trever.

Ormsby is the smallest and oldest dorm that mixes freshman sophmores juniors and seniors up the most. It's very centrally located. Nice dorm, high ceilings, wood floors. 2nd floor had a great social scene my freshman year. Your mileage may vary.

Colman is ok. The rooms have sinks and closets. You also get to live in the same building as Lucinda's dining hall. But other than that I get a bad vibe from the people there.

And lastly Kohler which is in it's own world. The rooms have sinks which is nice, and it's very quiet most of the time. They seem to have a pretty tight-knit community.

Other than Hiett, my favorite is Sage. Close to Downer. Disruptive sophomoric behavior is kept at a minimum. Wonderful basement, probably the best on campus. Not the best dorm for freshman though. That award would probably go to Plantz unless you're not the social type in which case Kohler would be better for you."

D lived in Trever her freshman year. She enjoyed the hall and enjoyed the people.
