I didn't end up applying at Lehigh, but my regional adcom came to my school. I asked about demonstrated interest and I was told the same thing: If you live within 4 hours and you don't visit campus, they hold it against you tremendously.

The thing is a did visit. Its a two-hour drive and I have been up there twice. Other than that I have sent in a letter at MYR time saying that i am still interested. Yes i was using lehigh as a safety, but i dont know how they would have known that

OP had much better stats and we applied to the same program. I had a 3.6 with a bad freshman year to a perfect junior year, 1500/2000 SAT and a 29 ACT. I demonstrated ZERO interest and I live like an hour or two away. I took a lot of math, computer science, science, and a couple business classes. The only two things that, I think, set me apart from the OP is that I'm Asian and Lehigh is recruiting minorities and I showed huge interest in CS.
Too be honest, I think you got shafted. This year so many kids at my school have gotten denied and wait listed that ordinarily would have gotten accepted. My guess is that you got wait listed because you're a white upper class male, not to be racist.

yep, same issue. I was just accepted to Duke, and I found out today that I was waitlisted at Lehigh.. I did visit, but it was more of a drive through so I guess there was no way for them to know.
didn't know that they hold demonstrated interest (or lack thereof) against you that much!

I was also put on the waitlist and I was very surprised. I am pretty angry, but Lehigh was never one of my top choices. I just want to know why I was waitlisted. I am graduating in the top 1% of my class of 620 and my sats and acts are above average. Well, it's there loss anyway.

i got waitlisted too but i visited right b4 the deadline for apps and i emailed the guy for my region a couple times about visiting and receiving all my stuff. although im not totally surprised i got waitlisted its better than a rejection letter and already 4 ppl from my high school were accepted early decision and i know of 2 others that applied regular who both got in. i wonder if that makes a difference im not looking to lehigh as my first choice and i already got into my first choice school which is Rochester so its not devastating for me. good luck though to everyone else who got waitlisted.
and weird but a lot of ppl who got waitlisted had pretty strong stats and ec's so it sort of is surprising

I got waitlisted and I think I know why. My stats are:
3.7 uw
2140/2400
ranked 9 out of 420
I received two emails from Lehigh: one talked about my essay and how much the admissions person liked it. The 2nd email was from the Assistant Dean of the Business school. She said my record was impressive and she "encouraged" me to send her more information about how one of my ECs related to business. Since I knew I wasn't going to go to Lehigh anyway, I never responded to either email. I Clearly, they took this as lack of interest (even though I had visited the campus and had an interview).
It's all good though since I got accepted at Cornell :-)

S got accepted. Lehigh is his safety. He didn't visit, neither had an interview, but I think his answer to why Lehigh was awesome.

yeah, same boat. got into Duke and wait listed @ Lehigh. I think they think I'm using them as a safety, which isn't ENTIRELY true.

I never visited or even had an interview. I did make it up though by emailing loads of questions to a professor, although I'm not sure if it helped at all. I did end up getting accepted.

For those of you thinking about the waitlist - the common data set on Lehigh's website reports that they took 2 students from the waitlist last year.
