Anyone willing to describe life at Lehigh?

I'm having a rough time trying to make my final decision, but its down to Lehigh and other school.... i really was set on going to Lehigh, but i became skeptical after reading some posts on other websites and hearing about the campus from alumni...

I'm really looking to see with the social life is like mostly b/c i already have a good idea of the academics..

How many days of the week do they party?
How big are the frat parties?
Are there any clubs or bars?
In general how is the social life?
Is it a "jock" campus? "Clicky"?
What kind of people?
ect, ect.... any comments would be greatly appreciated

Go to one of those picture hosting sites like webshots and do some searches. You should be able to get a pretty good/unedited look at student life by wading through pictures under a Lehigh search. You can draw your own conclusions.

You could probably do the same thing for your bars/clubs question. I don't know what search terms would be best to unearth them but leon's, tally ho, element, macgrady's, and the funhouse are some you could look for.

Lots of students party Thursday through Saturday nights. I'm sure you could find people drinking pretty much any day of the week but obviously its not the same people every day. The thing you have to understand is that Lehigh's work hard/play hard reputation is a source of pride to a lot of people - as it was for myself - so you're not going to get a vigorous counterweight to the whiners on the internet who claim to be miserable there because nobody else considers their exaggerations to be much of an insult. Unhappy students exaggerate with a sneer while everyone else exagerrates with a twinkle in their eye, if that makes any sense.

Read student newspaper Brown and White for student views. You'll see plenty.

I'm Asian and I'm skeptical about attending Lehigh cause I heard Asians face a lot of racism there

I'm considering Lehigh vs. BC

Supposedly the kids at BC are lot nicer (Catholic school), and there's slightly more diversity at BC

yea i hear its pretty homogenous but 85% of kids are out of state.... but i just visited today and every kid i talked to (like 5-10) were really really nice and i was suprised- i asked them how it was at Lehigh and they said they wouldn't trade it for the world (and i made sure to talk to different crouds) .... but i also did some more research and its seems like its a pretty cool place to live.

in addition, i'm caucasion and my best friend is asian so if you go there we'll be friends lol... but really, i went there today and there were a lot of asians who looked they were havin a good time.. but i agree, i'm just as skeptical ... i wish i just really knew what the truth of the campus was its seems like a part is just missing i dont know about.. but mountain hawk helped me a lot - take his advice! i mean, i learned the academics are perfect for me, its just the social life i'm concerned about.. but as of now, i plan to attend Lehigh!...

Lil_Wayne_fan do you mind telling me where you're getting this? This whole notion seems idiotic to me but you're like the third or fourth person to come here saying this so I can't just dismiss it.

The only thing that occurs to me though is that my high school was pretty typical of a Lehigh feeder school from a demographic standpoint but had a much higher percentage of Asian kids. And there was a really stark contrast in high school. Meaning that there were a lot of kids (mainly Korean but a mix of others) who were so thoroughly Americanized and fit in so well with the rest of us that I kind of feel stupid about having this discussion. On the other hand there were a lot who were complete wallflowers and they pretty much kept to themselves. A kid like that who shows up at Lehigh would be up **** creek without a paddle, and a group of kids like that would certainly stand out and seem even weirder to people.

I guess my point is that if you go to a high school with a lot of white kids and fit in well socially I have a hard time believing it would be any different for you at Lehigh. But without knowing for sure what kind of kids are spreading this info it wouldn't make any sense for you to risk it.

Work load is as heavy as you make it. You are in college so you pretty much determine how much or how little you do. It's all up to you. Do you want to graduate in 4 years, 5 years or more?

Lil_Wayne_Fan, I've heard the same exact thing. I also heard the two sides-- Asians aren't really discriminated against, or they all. That was a big deal for me, too, but ultimately, I'm going to Lehigh.

life at lehigh is amazing. couldn't have asked for anything more from a college. EVERYONE i know feels exactly the same way

i know plenty of kids at lehigh now who did not have lehigh as their top choice school but they could not imagine being anywhere else. it's the PERFECT balance between challenging academics and healthy social scene.

as far as how many night people go out a week, that really depends. however, there is something to do pretty much every single night of the week. i think 4 nights a week is right around an average

not a jock campus at all, however it's very athletic. people stay active and take care of themselves.

there are 5-6 local bars/clubs...

social scene is pretty much dominated by greek life. Best part, parents, cover your ears: you will never have to pay to get in or to get drinks. Everything is free, which is great...if you're able to get in of course haha. can be tough unless you're a pretty girl or have legit connections.

to summarize: if it comes down to social life for you, COME TO LEHIGH. that is by far the best part. partying aside, everyone here is so down to earth it's incredible. you'd never know how smart kids are unless you saw their transcripts because no one feels the need to talk about that crap. the kids that party hardest are the ones with the 3.9 GPAs. it's mind blowing. i love lehigh, and i'm actually sad to be on summer vacation right now because i had such an amazing time this past year. now if that doesn't convince you, then i don't know what will ahha.
