Why did you Apply?

More specifically, I'm curious of what makes out-of-state kids apply to LSU? I live in-state, and I applied for that reason. If I didn't live here, I don't think I would have ever looked at LSU. Beyond sports, how do those who don't live here know about LSU?

Because Texas public schools are run by the nazis. Also, LSU as better opportunities for scholarships. I'm going to LSU on a full ride, whereas I would have been paying at least 5K a semester (tuition only) at any decent school in Texas.

I was a fan of their sports from a young age besides living in Illinois for I have no idea what reason. Anyway, start of junior year my mom had me do research on colleges. I started with U of I-Champaign, Washington STL, Vanderbilt, all the supposedly "good" colleges around here. I thought for the heck of it I'd check out LSU out of curiosity. I saw about the Honors college and the great scholarships, and it really peaked my interest. Then things happened over my junior year where I realized that an ubercompetitive college was not for me, and I began focusing more on colleges where I wouldn't have to kill myself and would have a good balance.

Anyway here are the reasons why LSU is #1 in my book still.
1. Honors College
2. Fantastic Scholarship Offer- Full tuition
3. I'm sick of the snobby attitudes of the people around here and it seems I'd be getting more of the same at "elite schools"
4. Try something different
5. The people are very friendly
6. I was treated like a VIP on my visit
7. Loved the campus
8. I would have an insane amount of college credit prior to day 1, allowing me to probably double major or have a couple of minors without overexerting myself.

And lastly, I have been accepted to U of I-Champaign and Tulane, etc., so it's not like this is my last resort.

@ notthatgood4

Are you a member of the facebook group LSU Class of 2012? It seems like I've read this before.

Wow, I didn't realize the scholarship opportunities were so desirable. For in-state , all we hear about is TOPS, and even that's not a free ride.

It's a beautiful campus, though. But I have a heck of a time finding anything!

I know, it's depressing.

Well, I chose this school because ever since the 8th grade I thought that TOPS would be very, very valuable. The campus is pretty. It's a school with decent stats and is only 45 mins. away from home. Football season should be hella fun. I went to great fb games all the time in high school, so I don't want that to end. hmm I can't wait to meet some outrageous people. I'm a small-town girl ready to see everything. omg I'm going to freakin' LSU this summer. I can't even grasp this. I'm going to freakin' college this year. ackackack it's coming so fast like a speeding baseball.....

Same here. I thought if I made the right grades, took the right classes, and kept up a good GPA in college, that TOPS would pay for EVERYTHING. I was sadly disillusioned.

How come it was free for you? I had to pay $45.

they sent me a letter saying I was selected for a priority application or something.

No fee, no essays.

No one had to write an essay (the SAT/ACT writing counts as your essay), but that's pretty sweet that you didn't have to pay the $40.
