Acceptance Chances? (LSU)

Hey, I'm a HS junior just looking at my college options... here are my stats (Including next year)

GPA: Non weighted: 3.1
Weighted; 3.7 (about 12 honors, 4 AP)

(Note: my gpa freshman year was about a 2.6, sophomore year about a 3.4 and jr year about a 3.5. I have taken more credits than needed in almost every subject, however i only completed 1.5 years of spanish and 2 years of sign language)

Psat 600 math
570 Reading
490 Writing

Planning on getting between 1800-2100 on sat.

Taking the ACT in April

I'm really involved with my school.

I have been class president for the past 3 year, and plan to do a 4th year, next year.

Clubs im in:

-Young democrats (vice president)
-STAND (its a club to raise awarness about the geneside in Darfur)
-Persian Club
-AIDS peer educating group
-Homecomming/Prom commettie
-Track (indoor & out door)

Outside of school, i have worked at a quiznos for 2 years, and now work for a child abuse clinic. I have also volunteered for a few political campains.

I'm from Montgomry County, Maryland. I go to a public school. MoCo is sopposed to be one of the best public school education systems in the country.

I love LSU and really wish to go there. I just want to know what my chances of getting in are, and what my chances of getting into the honors college are. Thanks.

I believe there are some cutoffs, such as 3.0 GPA, which you have a 3.1 so far. I'm not sure of the other requirements, but there are some, like a requirement to take Chemistry. Check out the website lsu.edu and they should have the requirements for admission and also for the honors college. Start your search with the prospective student and then research it from there. At least you're looking now before you start your senior year and you can be sure to schedule a class that is required instead of finding out after it's too late to add a class.

Best of luck! It is definitely worth pursuing. You still have opportunities to bring up your ACT and SAT scores. I'm sorry I can't be of much more help other than to advise you to make sure you have all required classes scheduled according to the lsu.edu website. It's looking good so far!

LSU doesn't grade on a weighted scale. Your unweighted GPA is a little low for an OOS. LSU does accepts students that have a 3.0 GPA, however, you may not that great of great scholarship money unless you have awesome test scores.

However, if you make straight A's that GPA will rise.

Your ECs are good. That might balance out the 3.1 GPA.

Defintely take the ACT. LSU accepts both SAT and ACT, but b/c most of the students who go to LSU are in-state and all LA high schools offers the ACT; they favor the ACT.
LSU's minimum requirement for SAT is 1030 or ACT score of a 22. Also: LSU requires a minimum ACT English sub-score of 18 or SAT critical reading score of 450, and a minimum ACT math sub-score of 19 or SAT math score of 460.

As for the Honors College, you have to make a 28 on the ACT or a 2160 SAT.

thanks so much. I know my Gpa is low, but I've been class president for a while so that should help. Anyone know why LSU is so cheap compasred to other schools?

It's a public school located in Louisiana.

But I think admittance to LSU is mostly number-related. It's mostly based on your ACT and GPA.

If you get a 28 on the ACT, or a 3.5 GPA, then you can get into honors. The GPA they use is kinda a mix between weighted and unweighted,

Don't count on honors with a 28 ACT.

I had a 31 ACT and a 3.92 GPA and I wasn't given honors.

That's strange because I had a 31 ACT and a similar GPA to yours. You didn't forget to check the honors college box in the application, did you?

No I made sure to. They even sent me a separate letter about how I was rejected to Honor's.

You haven't taken the ACT yet though. You might still have a chance. Just make sure you write an awesome essay.

That doesn't make sense Emory. If you bother them enough, they'll let you in. I heard there was a kid with a 21 ACT who was in it who subsequently dropped out due to alcohol abuse, but really it isn't that competitive.

Why is LSU so cheap compared to other schools?

It relied heavily on state funding. There are big time budget cuts, so I expect they will raise the out of state price considerably, but then again if you are in scholarship range it doesn't matter.

When they list "best value" colleges, someone isn't doing their research if LSU is not on the list.

LSU2012 I'm not really worried about it. I don't want to go to LSU. But I still wonder why I wasn't accepted.
