ermsypermsy: My S went to last weekend's admitted students weekend. You are in for a great weekend! He loved it -- and committed to Mac Class of 2016. He stayed with a student (who actually hosted 2 students in his room). It gave him a great sense of the school. The college is very well taken care of (nice buildings, clean, pretty grounds, good dorms) but the people are the best part. The school is in a great neighborhood in the middle of St. Paul, surrounded by large victorian homes and great little shopping areas. The professors, students and administration were terrific hosts. It's an impressive place. Over 200 prospects attended last weekend, and 200 will be attending again (with you) this weekend. Everyone is so welcoming! Have a good time.

proudmama2016, thanks!!! I'm super excited, and it's good to know about your S's positive experience maybe I'll meet him someday if I have a similar weekend! haha

Lark123: you sound exactly like my father... he's hoping I'll decide as soon as possible so we can get the paperwork done!

I had a good time, and it was fun, but I did come to the conclusion that though Mac is a wonderful school and a great place, it's not the best fit for me. That's okay, though, that's why we do those visits.

I was accepted off the alternate list!!! Wasn't prepared for that at all...

SAT: CR 700, M 600, W 790
GPA: 4.0 unweighted
Rank: 21/ 500-something
AP tests: AP Calc AB (5), AP World History (4), AP Enviro (waiting)

Essays: common app- wrote about my love of seeing people learn, just an anecdote from a class. supplemental - forget what I wrote
Teacher Recs: 1 very good, a few average ones
Counselor Rec: average, didn't know them well
Supplementary Material: a painting, excerpt from an essay
Hook: not really, but one of my AP world history essays from 2010 is used as an example on the College board website. got an 8, and my brother recognized my handwriting as he prepared for his own test!

location: Florida
High School Type: public
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female

Extracurriculars: service club, Relay for Life, book club, volunteer as a herbarium assistant at a botanical garden
Awards: outstanding freshman research (science program)

I don't feel like bragging, I'm just happy to know that I will be able to afford college, and a great one at that! I want to get involved in the folk music group and Irish dance club. I would love to learn bagpipes as well.
