Anecdotally I have heard that Macalester has over-enrolled and is not going to their waitlist but that is uncomfirmed.

The above was posted on another thread. Sigh. If it's true I'm going to have a very very very sad D on my hands.

robileez-- I was the poster on the other thread. I heard this second-hand thru someone who knows someone on campus-- and I have not had it corroborated or refuted. Have you tried calling?

I got my nerve up, called Macalester, and just talked to the Director of Admissions. He was very candid.

Macalester has a full class at this point, but, they have no idea how Mac’s enrollment will be affected as the Ivy League schools turn to their waitlists.

My D is convinced that she will be perceived as annoying if she sends any more information to Macalester, but at this point I think students remaining on the waitlist should stay in contact with admissions.

Good luck to everyone still hoping to hear from Mac!

robileez-- thank you for posting this. My S hasn't called them yet so maybe I will ask him to call tomorrow. That won't be too annoying as it would be the first call, though he did send supplemental material.

Acme-smart idea. My VERY independent daughter probably won’t listen to me (18 and won’t listen to her mother…no, really?), but I’m going to suggest she do the same. Actually, she broke up with her boyfriend today and has two AP’s tomorrow, so maybe I’ll wait a few days!

Good luck to your S! Keep posting info…

Well, we didn't call, but I spoke to someone from St. Paul who has a friend who teaches at Mac and they are all saying the same thing anecdotally-- overenrolled for now, no official word on moving to the wait list.

This process is hard.

Several kids from my D's school applied to Mac as their safety, were accepted, but were also accepted at some match schools, so they aren't going to Mac.

My kid applied to Mac as a match school, it was her first choice school, and she's waitlisted.

Now, she's truly tired of the waiting, wants to enjoy the rest of her senior year without this hanging over her head, and so she's about to leave Mac's waitlist. Oh well, I guess it's the nature of the beast.

Hang in there acme and I bet your S is Saint Paul bound in the fall!

S got the letter today saying that Mac is overenrolled and not taking any other U.S. students from the alternate list. So if you are International you might still hear other news.
