How important are ecs?

I'm a sophomore in high school and was wondering how important ec's are in MIT admissions. last year i was part of the varsity lacrosse team, but this year the team is a lot better and i'm not sure that i can make it. I do community service a a local senior living home, and I ride BMX. Would this be enough for ec's? There aren't any other clubs that my school offers that i'm interested in.

Thanks

EC's are pretty important; they show MIT who you are and what you like.

Your EC list may or may not be enough, it all depends on the rest of your application. However if there's nothing else extraordinary on your application, I highly doubt it.

Is there a JV lacrosse team?

If not, could you initiate/organize one, or an intermural team for the kids not quite good enough to make the team?

MIT is trying to figure out who you are. A key question here is "what do you do with the hours that you are not in class?" You do not need to have great EC's, but you should have an great answer to that question. EC's are often the easiest way to have a great answer to that question.
