I agree that even the guys should care about MIT maintaining a good girl/guy ratio. Or do all those geeks want to be single?

| Marilee Jones Fired at MIT
For those of you who disliked the admissions process at MIT under the direction of Ms Jones, she has just been fired for misrepresenting her academic credentials to get her current and past positions at MIT. No wonder she didn't care about credentials - she didn't have any.
It is fascinating to go to MIT and look up their announcement when Ms Jones was first hired. The MIT Dean talked about the "rigorous" and "thorough" process they went through to search for the right candidate to take over the prestigious position of Dean of Admissions. Several PhDs were on the committee that chose a woman who lied about her academic credentials. They didn't even bother to ask the school she went to whether or not she had attended and graduated. That creates a new definition for thorough and rigorous.
Just thought you would want to know.

I'd like to have people reporting factually on this incident.
She resigned.
And while we're at it, claiming that her staff (not her: as I understand it, she did not read folders, her staff did) "didn't care about credentials" is a load of horse pucky.

| When someone phoned MIT. If she hadn't resigned herself, then in all probability she would have been fired. Quote: |

| Dean of admission spends some time with the folders in the admit pile before they are definitely admitted.

You're free to speculate on that. We don't say that Nixon "was fired" as President, we say he resigned. I'm just encouraging factual reporting: no need to exaggerate for effect on this one.

Ok, so god came in her dream last night and told her to tell the truth to everybody and resign form her post. I salute to her.

My guess is it's more likely an angry rejected applicant Googled or spent time calling around and called in to bust her.
I answered your late-edit addition of "Dean spends time with folders..." comment on the other thread.

But what does it say when "an angry rejected applicant" with Google and a phone can expose a falsehood that was right under MIT's nose for so many years?
Or did someone at MIT already know this? Would Jones have resigned if she hadn't been outed?

holy ****ing ****.......
I am so befuzzled.
I doubt anything will be changed though... Seeing that MIT has changed its direction for quite some time now...
I wonder how this will affect the yield for this year.
Not only that, but she wrote a book. Wow, just wow, just wow.......................

How ironic that the person who lowered the qualifications of accepted applicants (wanting to focus on the whole person, not just their accomplishments) had no paper accomplishments of her own. The title of this thread in light of this new information -- wow, indeed.

lol InquilineKea's response is hilarious. A little surprised, perhaps?
I was incredibly surprised. Even though I didn't agree with her policies, I respected her and I never thought that she would stoop so low.

"With colleges demanding kids who play sports, run student government and take the heaviest course load they can, Jones shouted back the opposite: daydream, stay healthy, and don't worry so much about building a resume just to impress an elite college."
Of course she shouts that; she was probably a slacker who didn't take the heaviest course loads or extracurriculars. She tells others to "daydream" and that credentials are not that important because she doesn't have any. Someone like her having a say on who is admitted to MIT or not contaminates the whole admissions process because she has no idea what a scholar is. Her flawed leadership probably influenced the rejection of many qualified applicants for unqualified ones. I hope she gets sued for fraud and has to go to prison or is fined heavily.

I never thought that Marilee was the type to do that - it could have happened to someone else.
Hmm, they never checked..
How common are triple degrees, anyways? (triple degrees where it's not BS, MS, PhD). There would have to be some overlap, considering that "misrepresenting" a PhD would be far more risky than "misrepresenting" a BS/MS.
And she was always labeled as a "scientist". Yet I see no evidence of her being one. Certainly, any institutions that would recruit scientists would check on the validity of a degree...
