M.I.T. FAQ - 2009 edition.

I know that some of the questions are answered somewhere else. You are welcome to post appropriate links.

Please ask your questions, and if you can think up a question for which you know answer - post it as well, [along with answer of course! ].

It will be easier and faster to read everything in one place.

COMPUTERS:
1) I have seen that in most of dorms there is a printer in rooms. However, not everywhere. Does it mean, that in some dorms there is a network printer, and in other is not? What's the printer availability at MIT? Should we buy our own printer? Paper?

2) Which dorm has the slowest internet connection?

3) MIT bandwidth
MIT Bandwidth

LABS/UROP:

1) How much hours per average week can you urop?
2) Do we have ay influence on the research? Can we propose our ideas? Or maybe uropping students are only training their manual abilities?

SPORTS:
1) Do we have to pay for sport facilities, if we do not want to play in a team?
I mean, I do not want to be bind to any hour to go play, let's say squash. I guess there is such a possibility in some cases, how expansive is renting the field/gym for such 'unofficial' plays?

2) How far is the closest place for skiing =)?

Extracurricular activities:

Boston/Cambridge:

Unofficial events:

1) Cool part 1.
Throwing big block of sodium into the Charles River
