Hey guys, I am a new member in the forums but have been rummaging through it for quite a while now. I must say, I was quite impressed with the kind of responses from members. =)

So its time for you guys to help me out!

Background:

I am an international student [Indian Citizen] who is studying in a Indian International School in Singapore.

SAT I: 760 Math, 720 CR, 680 Writing [1480/1600, 2160/2400]

SAT II: 780 Math Level II, 780 Physics Level II

Rank: 2/6 :P [I am in the first batch of seniors in my school and I lost 1st position by 1%]]

GPA: N/A

Final Semester scores:

Xth Grade: Avg. 84%

XIth Grade: Avg. 84%

Extra-Curricular:

- New South Wales Math: Distinction
- Participated in a Robotics Competition [Didn't win anything :P]
- Singapore Math Olympiad
- Vice - president of my school council [Doesn't make sense but going to be a prefect next year]
- 2 years of varsity Soccer
- Judo yellow belt [2 years]
- Swimming Intermediate Level
- 100hrs+ Community Service
- Fund raising for local charities

I can't remember all right now, I will update you guys if anything comes to mind.

So that's about it. Give me your honest judgement: Am I competitive?

I can write persuasive essays, so don't worry about that!

Okay, I guess you guys are stumped at the averages thing, so I tried to convert it to a GPA. This is not very accurate, but my calculated GPA is:

Xth Grade [Equivalent to Sophomore]: 3.86/4.0 [Matriculation exam]

XIth Grade [Equivalent to Junior Year]: 3.8/4.0

I hope this sorts out any confusion.

International admissions at MIT are ridiculously competitive due to the cap on accepted students (8% of the incoming class, I believe). It's really hard to chance an international applicant because honestly, there's a lot that's up in the air. I'd say that if you can show passion in your application and show exactly why you'd be a good fit for MIT, you have as much of a chance as any international applicant, but just know that most internationals end up getting rejected (I think this year it was like 94% or something like that), so I hope that you don't get your hopes up too much... Singapore Maths Olympiad Senior - No medals [Was like -this- close to getting a bronze, oh well. I just listed it as participation. You can laugh at me now =)]

After posting this thread, I feel like a complete tool.....

I am deeply passionate about getting into MIT, and not because of its brand name or reputation with which most people associate it with. I feel, MIT has a perfect environment for me, and I am going to show them that! =)

Do you guys think there is a consideration if I am part of the first batch of seniors in my school?

I think that your third paragraph is the most important consideration Best of luck, and trust me - you're not the worst tool on CC that I've seen by a long shot. Not even close.

no worries, u still have chance in Open section Math Olympiad, u just need to get about 7/25 to get a bronze... and its not that hard for silver and gold too

Yo! Okay... here's the thing... you're a decent application... you might do well for many univs... but... MIT is a different league altogether... you could have a look at my thread and comment if you want... i'm an indian scholar in singapore... JC, though... yub... and that 84 does not... to be frank... look very pretty cuz i know my friends back at home getting 92s and 93s not making it big... soo... as merely an application... i'm sorry... but in my opinion... (which i guess is a n00b's... lol)... it's weak... but what i love about you is your passion for MIT... and i guess if you could reflect that... it might cover up other stuff... like i've heard on my thread again and again and again... MIT wants passionate people... yup... you're from GIIS...? send me your msn or gtalk or whatever if you want... could chat up with you!

Do American Permanent Residents get considered as internationals? Before I thought they obviously were considered as internationals but MIT for example apparently only lets American citizens and Permanent Resisdents apply for EA/ED (which ever one it is, I don't understand the distinction...)
