| Accepted! I love God Stats:- SAT: 800 Math, 760 Reading, 680 Writing, 2240
- SAT II: 800 Math IIC, 770 Physics, 780 Chem
- ACT: N/A
- GPA: 3.99/4 unweigthed (B in freshman health -_-), about 4.65 weighted
- Rank: not ranked but definitely top 5 out of about 300
- Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): AMC12 about 106. didn't post my AIME scoer
AP Chem/Lang/Calc BC all 5's Subjective- Essays: Pretty Good
- Teacher Recs: Should've been good.
- Counselor Rec: Good, atlked a lot about my leadership.
- Supplementary Material: I think i got a good rec from my xc coach because he talked about how I wasn't the best runner, and this was one of the few thigns iw asn't good at in life, but I worked hard regardless. I can work through disappointments.
- Hook(recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): I'm giong to play lacrosse at MIT, got a letter of support from teh coach. I also am the NJ Boys State Governor.
Personal- Location: NJ
- High School Type: Top top Public
- Ethnicity: Korean
- Gender: Male
- Applied for Financial Aid: I will
Other- Extracurriculars:4 Year Varsity Hockey, 3 Year Captain, 3 Years Varsity Lacrosse, Sr captain, 2 Yrs Varsity XC, Did some Siemens, but didnt submit, Math Club at times, Spanish Honor Society, Peer Leader, Acapella Group, Choir
- Awards: Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, MVP/Coach's Awards, Honorable mentions for hockey/lacrosse
- Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: I think my Boys State Governorship really clinched it. Theres only one a year. Also I had some extracurricular leadership that probably made me stand out. I didn't just paly sports but I was a captain in a lot of them and Boys State helped that too.
What I tried to show in my application/interview/essay/recs was my match potential. I did my best to "fit" what MIT wanted in a student, but I didn't do it JUST to fit MIT, they were thigns taht are true about me that I tried to show them to the best that I could. I showed them that I'm a good student, but that I've gone through failures. In my interview i explained why I wanted to go to MIT and what it would mean to me but that I'm also a normal kid. In the explain what you like to do for fun section, i didnt talk about research or anything, I said I like to hang out with my friends. Be yourself, show that you match Good luck! |

I'm unbelievably excited right now, and this is the best Christmas present I could have hoped for. I'm glad the admissions committee recognized how much I really want to go to MIT, and how much I would be willing to take advantage of every resource they have as well as give back to the MIT community. That's probably all it came down to - the fact that I expressed my passions well and that I showed I'm a normal person who has weird quirks like an obsession with cultural Chinese movies. I also have to thank all the people who wrote me recommendations and my interviewer, and basically everyone that made a difference.
Good luck to everyone who got deferred, and those who are applying regular decision! Don't lose hope yet! I thought getting into MIT was impossible, but here I am... still slightly in shock. My thoughts are with all of you! Hang in there!
