| When Does the MIT 2010 Application Come Online?
I've visited the site, but it only says that it'll be out sometime this summer.
When does it usually come out each year?

do they pretty much have the same application every year? If so, what is the main essay question?

Last year's main essay was: Quote:
Essay (around 500 words): Choose essay A or B.
Essay A: Tell us about an experience which, at the time, really felt like the "end of the world" -- but had it not happened, you would not be who you are today. Describe the process through which you discovered value in the negative.
Essay B: Describe the world you come from, for example your family, clubs, school, community, city or town. How has that world shaped your dreams and aspirations?

Essay B sounds just like the UC essay prompt.

| Ha, I can have a field day with that.

From an email I got today from Matt: Quote: |
Also, students should be prepared that 1) this year's application may come online later than last year's did; and 2) there may be some changes to the essays.
| I wouldn't start writing those essays yet.

perhaps not refining essays, but i think it's still a good idea to write essays. You can probably apply some of the ideas to a new essay topic - I don't think what MIT really wants to know about you is going to change from year to year.
just me though. I know I have a hard time coming up with ideas quickly, so the more brainstorming I do now, the easier it'll be later.
question though - while I know what Matt said in his email isn't definite, how probable do you think major essay changes are? [whole new questions, not tweaks to current questions] like, does admissions say this every year just to give them the option to change the essays, or is this unusual for an admissions officer to say?

| Well, at least don't get your heart set on these being the essay topics.
My impression is that major changes to the essays are probable -- this isn't something I've heard every year, and certainly not something I hear in a spontaneous email on a Monday morning. My impression is also that this email is directly in response to threads like this. (Hi Matt!)

^^Thanks! Looks like we'll have to wait, then.
(Side note: One thing I really like about the whole MIT admissions process is the whole "personalized" aspect of it, what with the blogs and so forth. )
