How far are you on your MIT application?

For those applying EA MIT, how far are you on your application?

How long have you been working on it?

I got my letters, finished filling out info, working on essays.

I have all essays but the optional done (as in at least written). Informational stuff done. I'm just retouching some stuff (editing essays) and putting together some supplemental material. My football schedule gets really busy in the next few weeks, so we'll see how it all ends up.

Best of Luck.

I finished asking for letters and Part 1. I'm working on Part 2 and going to send out all the teacher recs and transcript via the school.

My son finished his application and it was submitted. Only thing left to be received are the counselor form and one of the letters of rec. He is being recruited for a sport and the coach wanted it turned in as early as possible.

Gonna have one more rec letter done.. and I have two additional rec letters from internships. Submitting my app on Oct 30th after I get my Oct SAT scores back

Djokovic! That sounds like a lot of recs. I was told by an admissions officer if you send in too many it could hurt you. If I was you I wouldn't send in that many,it's overkill.

"Extra recommendations. If you feel an extra recommendation would show an important additional side of you not already covered, you may send in an additional letter of recommendation. This in general would not need to be on an MIT recommendation form from the application; a separate sheet of paper is most common. In general, third recommendations from a teachers do not provide much additional insight; the most helpful supplemental recommendations come from people who know you well outside the classroom. Some helpful extra recommendations I've seen have come from research mentors, youth group leaders, coaches, and bosses. If you decide a third recommendation is necessary, have your recommender send this via US Mail to MIT Admissions, and be sure your full name and date of birth are included." - Matt McGann MIT Admissions Director

I have two extra recs from a Ph.D researcher and a econ Professor who I both worked for in two internships I had.

I know what it says, but an AO told me it is looked at very unfavorably if there are a lot of recs. Do what you want, but I've been told this by more than one.

Hmm I appreciate your concern. But here is my judgment.

1. MIT openly invites additional rec letters if they are helpful via their website.
2. It is a great medium for the adcoms to learn about my internships so that I don't have to worry about using too much space writing about them on my app.
3. It is only two additional letters dude.. that is hardly 'a lot'.
4. I told my mentors in both my internships that they do not need to write THAT MUCH. Like maybe one or two paragraphs, nothing too fancy at all.

I think it is unfavorable if it is another letter that just talks about the same stuff as your regular letters.

Like I said, it's totally up to you. I'm just giving you advice from when I talked to the AO's. They said it's not a good idea and one specifically said, "don't do it". My son sent in third because it was totally different from the first two as this person knows my son in a different facet of his life. There is no overlap. Good luck.

I submitted Parts 1 and 2 today! I'm just waiting for other things (recommendations, school report, fee waiver request) to get processed. =) Good to have it (mostly) out of my hands.
