So I finally decided that I'm applying to MIT and I've been really busy getting all my stuff together for the application. But I'm so nervous! I feel like since I have never really been someone who has participated in a ton of research at colleges and done science fairs and all that stuff, I don't have anything to make me stand out except my essays. My test scores are fine, that's not a problem, I am just worried that since I never really had the opportunity to get involved to an extreme degree that I am not adequate! How can I make my application look better?

Just be yourself. I highly doubt that research or science fairs is a requirement to get into MIT. MIT, like many other top notch schools, like to see diversity.

Calm down, and stay focused on bring a clear message on your apps abotu yourself. Everyone can be impressive in their own right.

It's been stated many times that many if not most successful applicants have not done years of research, cured cancer, invented something, or won national awards. MIT likes to advertise their high-profile students (i.e. the kid who invented a one-wheeled motorcycle, the quad sophomores, etc.), but they also are one of the most egalitarian schools around; getting in is meritocratic. Also, CC gives you a skewed view of the applicant pool. So if MIT is the school for you, then apply.

just be yourself, talk about a unique experience and a weird event in your life....DON"T talk about what you want to be later on in the future....remember you're like 17 or 18, we're only teenagers!!
