List Mediocre AMC12 score??

Hi,

I took the AMC12 last year for the first time (as in, I never took AMC10 or other AMC test)...I got a 79.5 ... > <

Should I even bother putting it down?

Thanks,
ansar

If you get a 0 on the AMC, but have good grades in math and good SAT scores or other things that show your ability, then they'll realize that your AMC score doesn't mean much. Of course, a bad score won't do very much except maybe showing that you have an interest in math.

is a 105 and 4 on AIME considered good enough to put down?

I think you should put it down no matter what it is. If it's poor they will overlook it and move on. If it's average/decent it will help a little and definitely won't hurt you. If it's good/great then it should help.

The average score for the AIME is a 3 right? In that case, you having a 4 is definitely above average and worth putting down.

hmmm I listed a 106.5 / 6, hopefully not too bad
and yea it probably won't hurt. It's just a number and if the adcom thinks it's bad he/she will just move on. Not like a LoR where they have to spend time reading it.

is a 94.5 any good?

I took the AMATYC however and got 25/40 which apparently was high enough to score 2nd highest at the local community college. So as a high schooler, I beat a lot of the aspiring engineers...

With the disclaimer that I didn't know what any of these things were when I was in high school myself, my feeling is that if you don't know whether a score is good or bad, you should include it in your application and allow MIT to decide. It's really unlikely that listing an AMC score (which is something that the majority of the applicant pool doesn't have) will hurt you, unless you're trying to present yourself as some sort of contest math prodigy with a low score.

Anything about 100 is good. I would say respectable for a MIT applicant. I would definitely put anything above 90. They used to say that above 90 was honorable mention.

Not everyone spends the same time at learning math, but once you get in the 100's you've definitely demonstrated a fair amount of skill.
