molliebatmit, thank you very much for the detailed info on selection. Very helpful.

Just curious, does the second (and/or the third) reader also have unilateral veto power to weed out an app before it reaches the committee? After the selection committee review, why does the senior staff member (is this reader the same initial reader?) have to review it again? Can he/she overturn the committee's decision?

I would agree. Any initial pass to weed out the obviously non-competitive is looking for just that, folks who are OBVIOUSLY non-competitive. If there is doubt, then the application goes forward.
