do i need to do more for mit?

Hi everyone. I am currently in my junior year and interested in applying into mit next year. i have so far taken 4 aps, bio, human geo, govt, and european history. scores 5s on bio and human geo and 4s on euro and govt. i am ranked in the top 10% of my small class, and get mostly As with some Bs in there. I am not a straight A student, but I do get As in most of my science (B+ in ap bio) and all of my math classes. I have been doing crew for 2 years, this year being my third, and been doing swimming for 2 years. I just took the SAT and expecting mid 600s on reading and writing, and high 700s on math. I absoutly love math and science more than any other subject out there, especially chemistry and physics. i have won awards at math competitions including an individual and team trophy. also i can speak a bit of chinese, enough to hold off a short conversation( really depends on the topic)

i know that my transcript is not the strongest out there and my SAT scores will prolly hover around 1950-2150, but i do not solely focus on academics all the time. i've built computers and fixed up cars, and have a good deal of experience with these two things. i like to do research on my own time with various things that don't have anything to do with school. for instance, i've researched stuff black holes (i dont know why) and meteors and whatnot.

i'm hoping that i can build my transcript even more before i graduate, and looking for opinions for what i could do to help boost that. and does MIT really (like i mean really) look into the essays? thanks for ur opinions

also, i've got a science project underway and plan on entering the next science fair as soon as a i can.

Don't ask yourself if it's enough for MIT. Ask yourself if it's enough for your personal growth and satisfaction.

Suggestions:
1. Target scores for SAT subtests and SAT-II's - at least 700
2. As many AP's as you can comfortably take, or dual-enroll, or self-study for an AP test/tests (show initiative & challenge yourself)
3. Continue with your EC plans
4. Your essays are particularly important for you, to help you stand out; try to show your long-term interest in something (?building computers, ? car repair)
5. Realize that standardized test scores, class rank, GPA, etc. get you consideration only; schools like MIT are trying to build a complementary community of students - hopefully they'll be looking for someone who is entreprenurial and can repair a car engine!

1. Don't put all your effort into aiming for this one school.

Academic achievements ain't everything. My EC (interviewer) told me after the interview that MIT is now looking for the LEADERS, not just high-recorded students.
