Well I got a my AP score today and Im completely shocked!
I got a 1 on both Calc BC and the AB subscore and honestly i don't think I did that bad.
I did fine in class and our teacher had a 100% pass rate for the AB portion and I got a 670 on the SAT and 640 on MATH II Subject test so I am pretty sure this was an error.
Now, I emailed my college instructor and asked if I could still stay in Calc II for college since I am pretty confident the machine made a mistake grading my exam and he wants my transcript but hasn't said anything his email basically said don't worry just send me your transcript.
Now my question is; would it be safe to skip Calc 1 without the AP test..I'm trying to assume the worst case scenario here. I want to transfer to UCI. I was already accepted there and they accept a 600 on the SAT Math as Credit for Calc 1 but the thing is I decided to stay at a CC
Calc I at UCI is just derivatives. As long as you know the power rule, product rule, quotient rule, chain rule, and memorized the derivatives for various functions such as the trigonometric and exponential functions you shouldn't have a problem skipping the class (I don't recall seeing other stuff like optimization and related rates in my subsequent calculus classes at UCI).
Well you can consider having the exam re-scored. Only the MC portion is rescored though.
Just make sure you have the math skills to succeed in Calculus II though, there are things covered that are not in the BC exam. And make sure you know Newton's method, which also isn't covered in AB or BC but it is an easy and interesting concept.
Yeah we covered all that. Has anyone ever been in the same situation to later find out that collegeboard made a mistake? Here's the thing...our class had a 100% pass rate for the AB section and 90% for the BC section for many years (like 6+)....my teacher said last year there was a kid who never did any homework or anything and he still passed the AB portion..it really seems odd that I got two 1's.
